Our cat is killing far too many birds

Hi all,

We're getting a bit concerned about our tabby cat now, he's killing far too many birds and today killed a pigeon, all in our back garden.

He also kills field mice as well, but with the mice he's decapitated a few of them and it's not a very pleasant sight waking up to find them on the patio outside.

We do realise, however, that when he does this he sees it partly as a present for us.

Is there anything we can do about this or is it simply not possible?

We're starting to feel quite sorry for the birds and the mice around here because he's turned into a killing machine just lately and he's on a proper roll with it.

I can't really bring anything useful to this thread.

So I'll just go ahead and say you should get a dog instead.

Won't do much, our cat has a bell on it's collar does my flippin head in at night but our garden is still like a mouse/bird graveyard!

It's a cat, its what they do!

I understand that, he's 1 year old though, so he's just honed some awesome killing skills lately, and why I think it has a bigger impact for us (seeing all these dead birds / mice etc.) is that we recently lost an older cat, who just moped around the house, slept virtually 90 percent of the time and the other 10 percent was eating food.

So having been used to him, who didn't kill anything, made it a bit more impacting to see our latest cat going at it like there's no tomorrow, I guess.

We might try the collar bell thing :)

Our cat is the same.
Three or four times a week we'll come into the kitchen (she has access to the kitchen overnight where the cat-flap is, but we close the door to prevent her roaming the house) to find part of/a whole mouse waiting for us.
The other day I found a large trail of blood going around the bottom of the kitchen units, and then the remains of a likkle mousey in the corner. Was quite messy.

Doesn't go for birds any more as she doesn't like the feathers.

This is him :)

My cat doesn't kill anything, even our chickens managed to kill a baby bird!

How about a swap? They look pretty similar :p
