Counter Strike Global Offensive rumours

We're not quite comparing like for like. The core gameplay in CS is as solid as it gets (although I did prefer 1.6) and shouldn't be changed beyond the odd tweak. The gunplay in the BF games, however, sucked my balls. There is much that is excellent about BF and these elements should be kept, but the core gameplay still needs work before we get something as solid as CS.

Well my take on it is as folows:

Countestrikes already had its visual update with source which also (mainly) retained the gold source version gameplay. To me now a good time to redesign it and for the first time in years put everyone on a level playing field again. People that may not like it still have source to fall back on just as people who ddin't like source stayed with the goldsource version.

I really do feel a lot of this "gamplay" argument is really down to people investing hours in the game, having a certain style of play and them literally quaking in their boots at having to relearn anything as if theyre being knocked off some little imaginary pedestal, as their old style of play may not be as effective anymore. In short, theyre afraid of change and are incredibly vocal about any changes that might knock them down a few rungs, in their own mind.

It was exactly the same argument with TF2 and Valve (rightly) decided to make it a new game. So for that reason i can see them making this something new as well, and a change would be welcome.

So exited for this.

Bit dissapointing its not on a totally new engine.

Also it will be interesting to see how the molotov and decoy grenades work

a roundup on features and views from Marek ".PhP" Kadek one of the players also invited:

- this game is not going to replace CS 1.6, or CS:S, it is primary made for consoles, PC version is just kind of a "bonus"
- at the moment, the game looks more like HL2DM
- There is no recoil and there will never be. (because of the consoles)
- the game runs on L4D2 engine
- SourceTV is NOT a priority
- they are working on match making system
- new money system
- no kevlar (this should be fixed in the future)
- maps are simplyfied for XBOX style, less ways, most fights are close range
- Hidden Path (Valve only finances the game) is trying to make all weapons balanced.

Valve is going to continue updating CS:S, and tomorrow they will also talk with the players about the future of CS:S...

Wow, no thanks.

Good point. :p If it does turn out to be crap I don't think many people will be too bothered considering the amount of people that still play 1.6 and CS:S, but it would have been nice to get a newer version of CS.

It better not be true. Counter Strike is one of those brand names that people have stuck with for over a decade, purely because of the reputation it has built up. It would be foolish to lose the hardcore fanbase to try and make itself more popular.

Bitches they come they go, but CS fan's stay true forever. :o

You say that but... I can't think of any PC devs that have been successful and haven't sold out to stick their brand on a console.

And in before the CS was on console, no it wasn't, it was ported by another company (turtle rock studios) to xbox. I'm talking full on releases like Call of Duty, GTA, Mafia, Fable, and Unreal. All these have been released on console as reboots with PC version usually playing second fiddle.

The overly long name of this CS reboot makes it sound like a console version.

So is this shaping up to a CS:CZ style affair then?

With valve later continuing CS in thier own style with the new hl engine far into the future?

I can't see how anyone can say that CSS is a "better" game, the movement is more fluid granted but you would expect that from an engine which is far more up to date.

The ability to full spray with a m4/ak without having to compensate for recoil is stupid. The AWP in 1.6 was the hardest gun in game to use, rarely did a clan have more than 1 designated AWP player. In source with the giant models, and quicker switch it made the gun completely overkill. Flashbangs in source are silly, being able to take an area without the need to throw multiple coordinated flashes is nonsense. The removal of wallbanging also lowered the skillcap of the game.

Looking at CSS as a standalone game, it was a good game but when you take the viewpoint that it was supposed to be the successor to 1.6 it was probably the biggest disappointment I've ever had from a game release.

your clueless

If valve buckle to the console jockeys its nearing the end for me

I have posted before how I have hoped valve were sitting on something new and revolutionary that may reboot PC gaming but it seems that its not to be. Valve have produced nothing of note since Portal 1 and tbh Source is starting to look very dated, all games look the same

I agree with a lot of what Gerard is saying.
