Pic: Your desk...RIGHT NOW

Here is mine at the moment - I didn't even bother trying to clean it as you can probably tell!

My Desk (covered with stuff)

The monitor is a pretty old (2005) Sony Bravia TV (Only being used as a monitor), not great but it does a reasonable job as a monitor although it can only go up to 1200x768 and takes ages to start up! It does have the benefit of letting me connect my server to it though a composite connection and simply change the channel which does the job if I just want to quickly check something on it.

My PCs (On the right is my main desktop, the old beige thing on the left is my server, on top of that is my netbook, I also have a i5 based ThinkPad and an old Core 2 Duo MacBook out of shot. Oh, and how can we forget the powerhouse that is my old K6-2 based laptop with 94mb of RAM that is lying under my bed)

Just gave my desk a proper clean with Mr Muscle

Asim, what's the black mat in between your keyboard and Captain James T Kirk?

Note to self: glass desks look cool to start with, but show dust and scratches like nothing else. Buy wood next time!!

Also wireless desks look much cooler! I have mostly wired stuff now for the main PC following a spate of 'must have wired devices for FPSs lol', but it certainly looks better wireless.

Finally have it just as I wanted it.....

Actually that just one part to the right is the second part that store my external backupdrives docks and usb stuff, and about 2 hours of cable tidying and hiding as best as possible.

+1

I'm in exactly the same position. Hate my not-so-shiny-now-covered-in-prints glass desk and my wired equipment! Can't justify replacing them at the moment. :(

That's a nice desk. May I ask where you got it from? I'm on the lookout for a bigger desk (wider than current one) so that I can have my computer under the desk rather than at the end.

I'm half thinking of looking for a small dining table OR getting a desk custom made using chunky planks of wood so that I have something strong enough for my aim of having two 24" monitors on my desk. I was watching DIY SOS last week (yes, I know! :o) and they made a really nice desk out of scaffolders' planks. They only needed the top surface because they but it in an alcove space so they attached it to the walls. I'm interesting in making a whole desk like that, as in free standing. :)

It was a long time ago, but I believe it was Vicking Direct, very VERY solid, the top is just under a inch thick, well bolted down, the two legs also act as great cable tidys.

Couple of more pics, was bloody hard to just find a larger solid table, honestly not sure if they are still doing them to be honest.

Cheers. :) I've had a quick look and it doesn't look as if its still being sold. I have found something similar that looks quite big. Bit expensive at £260 though! :p

Might not be the exact same but I think its the equivalent, certainly the same dimensions/ design.

You are right they are not cheap, but you feel the weight of them then ya kinda go "ahhhhhh", the surface is very tough on them, dad has a couple tho in a different colour/ finish and they dont scrape easily.

Hehe. That's 20cm shorter than my current desk. :p The one I found just now is 160cm wide which is getting there.

Nice one! It's pretty helpful to have a review, of sorts. :p

I've just found a joiner local to me who makes desks. Now he'd probably charge a heck of a lot for a the materials and time to make a desk but I could probably have a desk made exactly to my specs and have it made from proper, solid hardwood and not birch veneer like my current Ikea desk. :o However if the desk I like the look of from Viking Direct is going to cost me £260 I might as well see how much a joiner would charge me for something made the way I want it. :)

I think it depends on the quality of wood you can get for the table top part, use a wood thats too soft or not treated well itll be very easy to scrap/ stain, can see that just being where the cost lies.
