BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Have they changed their process then? I had FTTC installed over a year ago now and the OR engineer brought a Homehub with him and said it was standard practice.

(I didn't need the Homehub as I'd got FTTC through a reseller but that's why I assumed the OR engineers still bring the Homehub with them)

Well I don't have BT Infinity, but my neighbour got it installed and I had to take delivery of their Homehub when they weren't in.

Said on the top right/left corner of the box "Engineer Install" or something like that.

I don't know about previous practices but that's what it says online when you order, I got infinity last month and the HH was posted to me.

Every time i go to BT website they have changed their broadband/fiber packages. So the guy on the phone who said that i could not get unlimited fiber on friday, even put me on hold to speak to someone else and he confirmed that they do not offer unlimited on the business package. I just been to bt business website and it says for £5 more they offer "peace of mind" unlimited, is that a joke or what ?

So as they would not honor the original quote from the 13th of june i asked for the mac code as i was not going to pay that price for a 100gb cap.

Is it just general ineptitude and incompetence or do BT just not know their own products ?

This is my current speed with Infinity. Its a joke, dont go with Infinity!

You should post BT speedchecker results, could be a line fault.

No problems here:

Have you ever considered the small possibility that you may have a fault somewhere and that your issues are not what everyone on infinity will experience?

Though i'm not with BT my FTTC has been 100% perfect since the day it was installed.

As above, post results from here before whining...

Ive had no problems with my BT Infinity - been connected now for 31 days solid - no drop outs. Speeds are usually around 37mb/s on speedtest (occasionally I get a drop in speed like today was 2 mb/s for around 2 minutes).

I would recommend it.

a lot of the time when people moan about their bad internet connection its their own crappy internal wiring.

Although BT really isn't my first choice for internet I couldn't bare a speed drop whilst moving house. Moving 500m down the road would have lost me 7mb with BE so I thought the jump to the infinity package would be the best idea.

Getting connected on the 1st Sept, hoping my results are as good as some of them that are posted here!

This is my worry, In the past I had problems and in the end a BT engineer changed my faceplate upstairs (where the main pc is) and told me this was the only point I could get broadband through (two other sockets incl main in hall). So if I signup for BT Infinity am guessing they are gonna want to run a cable upstairs via skirting / doorways or leave it on WiFi only :(

Also if you are using Kaspesky V11 this interferes with Speedtest results.

Just download V12 Kaspersky and this seems to have fixed the issue with speedtest.net

(its still faster than half the country though :) )

update:

I activated the BT broadband line after much thought and have a fiber install date booked for the 2nd September. They have in fact honored the quote from the 13th of june.

Strange that BT charge £5 per month extra for a static ip, but what makes it even more strange is that it is not even a real static ip, it is just a dhcp with a long lease. lol. Typical BT. Would not be so bad, if for one, they did not sell it as a static ip and two, if they did not charge £5 per month extra for it.

Hopefully this time the engineer shows up and it is looking promising this time.

Getting infinity and vision installed on Wednesday :) been quoted 27meg which is a hoooge improvement over the ~1.3 I currently get.

HH3, vision box, welcome pack and homeplug type thingys turned up today (well left at the back door :P)

Bit "concerned" as the Master socket is in the lounge and I want the modem / home hub in the study at the other end of the house and there isn't a great route for the "extension kit" - I have read there's a possibility of swapping a "normal" socket tons master? I'll stock up on tea, coffee and biscuits for the Engineer :)

it's also odd as the main BT line comes into the house at the study I (wrongfully) thought that would be the Master :s

If the BT line comes into the study he'll be able to easily install a new master socket. Tea and biscuits at ready, the engineer installed mine routed the line into the study for me, was very accommodating.

I don't have Infinity but I have normal BT broadband, BT Home Hub 2.0 :Fibre. Now I get 35mb download and around 2mb upload however when I want to download torrent's im only getting around 3.0kb/s download! I was doing some reseach and I found you had to foward ports or something like that? How do you do this, and how do you get the best download speed for torrents? Help me please. I didn't want to create a new thread lol :p
