It's a shame but that is what can happen if you swim in waters that have sharks in them. :(

I don't like the fact they are hunting the shark down though, totally unnecessary.

Isn't it like the second attack in a week or something? Most sharks won't target people. But when you've got one that's attacked two people in a week, the likelihood of it doing it again is higher.

Really though they should be using shark nets and patrolling on jet skies or boats. But then that costs money and people would complain of other sea life becoming entangled in the nets.

Lol...going there for my elective in January, and was hoping to learn diving beforehand. I know it's months away but I'm **** scared of sharks.

Sensationalist article. "Monster", "taste for human blood" etc. Get a grip.

It has killed 2 people in 2 weeks - it would appear it does now count humans as acceptable prey. If you understood basic predator psychology you might realise that it needs to be destroyed.

How do you tell its the right one?

I assume, catch one. cut it open. repeat. how long would that take? and how many sharks do you kill? Has no one ever seen Jaws? It didn't work in the film :p

Or do you bring it in for questioning? Stupid idea is stupid.

If I was killed by a shark I wouldn't want it hunted down. Its absurd.

I am sorry, but is there actually any proof that it was the same shark?

2 people were killed swimming off the same beach, less than 2 weeks apart. Sharks are very territorial - the chances of it being 2 separate sharks (especially given how rare sharks that attack humans are) are miniscule.

As I stated, sharks are territorial - it will likely be in the same area and will respond to standard bait. The injuries on the dead man will give a very good indication of its size, so if a small/larger shark is caught it can be freed.
