I fancy a new car to replace my 99 Peugeot 306 HDi, I currently do less than 6000 miles a year and my 306 is getting rather worn out I feel.

The front wishbone bushes keep going! (could be related to it having too much torque) and the rear gas rams and bushes seem tired.

I'm having trouble convincing myself to buy the Civic though and I can't understand why!

I need a discussion to see whether It's a good idea or not :o

I've got the money in my pocket and I've been looking at this > http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3121829.htm

So convince me OcUK ;)

Go view it and so if you like it. Test drive and VTEC, if you like it purchase it.

A relative of mine has one, pre-facelift and it's a good car. A bit common now but I think they are excellent drivers cars. You can really push them until they punish you.

Toyota Corolla T sport as a not so common alternative?

they also did a rather rare supercharged version that has 215bhp standard but they are quite rare(250 imported iirc)

Tbh the corolla t-sports are ok cars, normal one's are 190bhp I think, and the compressor version 215. If I was to ever purchase one I'd go for the compressor, they just seem heavy and lardy then the EP3's.

The pre facelift Corolla isnt as good as the Civic, the facelift is just as good if not better. I have driven both and bought the Corolla and thats coming from someone who has owned so many Hondas I've lost count and was a member of the Honda forums for years

You've got an itch and it won't go away, go and try it and even more marquees if you're thinking that the CTR isn't the one for you.

Then you'll realise diesel hatchbacks are rubbish, and that you'll want to go for a drive in it :p

Because it was cheap and a decent similar aged Civic would have cost you thousands more.

One year ago a 2003 Civic Type-R with 60K on the clock was approx £5.5k

For the same money a 2005 facelift Corolla T-Sport with 46K on the clock could be had, a budget is a budget and the Corolla is a good alternative the Civic

It's common that you can buy an inferior but newer car for the same money as a better example. Infact its nothing but logical - the demand for the Corolla is low - because it's not as good as the Civic - therefore price falls.

Couldn't disagree with you more, the Corolla isn't a good alternative.

As Fox mentioned, it isn't as popular because it isn't very good, frustratingly he's right. :p

Skeeter on this forum is a vigorous defender of reliable, fun and cheap hatchbacks. The EP3 CTR makes it to the top of his list year after year. "There just isn't anything as fun on four wheels".

He is currently in the process of negotiating on that very car so I'd snap it up before he does!

If there's one thing which looks more boring than a civic it's any toyota from the last decade :P

You'll love a Type R, you can throw it around with around worrying about stuffing it into a tree, and not paranoid that your turbo could blow at any minute...

Id say do it, or a Celica.

Ive had and now sold my corolla T sport. it is a good quick car - mine was lowered and front strut, rear ARB etc and it did handle well but to be honest the seating is a bit high (when you've sat in loweer cars i might add). And even with those mods i dont think it handled as well as a celica or type R!
