Going to Amsterdam tuesday! Spec me things to do

Funny how when people who do not live in the Netherlands talk about coming here all they seem to go on about is smoke.

There are plenty of museums, you have the anne frank house as has already been mentioned, you can take a riverboat cruise, bike tour as you already mentioned, you can jump on a train and go and check out some other places too.

you can also take a look at this site: http://www.iamsterdam.com/en/visiting which should give you plenty to do.

The Heineken Experience is quite expensive and not very good, unless you are particularly keen on the beer I wouldn't bother.
Don't go to The Bulldog, very expensive.

Best thing in Amsterdam though is to go onto the Red Light District side of the river, and then keep going. Go past it and keep walking. Get lost, and you'll find yourself in a nice area where locals go. Bars will be cheaper, as will the weed, people are very friendly and it's a beautiful city.
It really is a city to walk around in getting lost. Stop off now and then for a beer/smoke and then continue the walk.

For what other reason would people visit The Netherlands besides smoking pot and drinking beer? I mean there's nothing else to do there, except for cycling through farms on even roads endlessly ;)

Back on-topic: try the Sex museum.

edit: if you're in a coffee shop, try some Space Cake (make sure you don't have to drive afterwards) ;)

true if you stick to areas like Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

But your statement is classic of someone who knows nothing about this country. There is a hell of a lot more to do here than drinking and smoking but it would mean you would have to expose yourself to some culture.

In this area alone there are about 15 different festivals throughout the summer

But I live there, so I know what I'm talking about ;)

There are some nice fish restaurants in some villages though.

Culture is for people who are interested in that ;)

When does the Dutch league start? Could you go and watch ajax play?

Oh, another thing. Get hold of some Vla. It's amazing! And get a box of chocolate sprinkles that are used as a sandwich filler.
Classic Dutch cuisine!

There are loads of museums, get a guide book out from your local library.

I would caution against all 3 of you doing shrooms at the same time. I had some supposedly mild shrooms in Amsterdam, and wouldnt have made it home without help from some more sober mates. I had taken shrooms and acid before, but it was the worse trip I have ever had. The city centre is such a weird place with all the drug addicts and prostitutes, and it totally freaked me out. I couldn't see properly and was totally Disorientated. If you want to do them I would suggest having them in the daytime and going to a Park.

Just stay away from the more tourist-ey coffee shops and you'll be fine. You generally don't linger in the smaller places though - grab a bag, have a joint with a bottle of fruit juice and move on. I'd also definitely recommend a visit to the red light district - it's quite an experience. Just don't take your camera out.

Really...why else would you go?

Ive been to Amsterdam, Utrecht, Maastricht and Nijmegen. Nijmegen has the best coffee-shop I've ever been to, and really theres not much else to do there, or in the others (apart from RDL in 'dam ;)).

I did want to go to Rotterdam a few weeks ago when then had their carnival but had to do other stuff, I heard its suppose to be good.

If I wanted to go to a festival could just go to Brussels :p

Worst 'I'm a 'ard man and smoke weed and cannabis whilst going for ladies' thread ever.

Serious.

Did anyone else get that vibe from my posts? No? Good. Now sod off and post useless nonsense in someone elses thread.

Thanks for the helpful advice, especially the Jazz club as my mates and I thought that would be worth a visit. We are well aware of weed and women making up the majority of tourists visits and we are going for that as well so receommendations in that area and other general things to do are welcome. Am sure we will have a couple of days at least of just plodding along and seeing where we end up.
