Hey Guys,

By the time i build my computer it will be 2012, so i was looking at AMDs new chips coming out next month, but i am on my tight budget, so i want to ask:

How expensive do you think they will be?/How much more expensive do you think the chips will be than the current Phenom IIs?

Thanks

It would only be speculation my friend.

If you are on a tight budget. Decide what it is, then spec the best system you can now...a wish list lets say. Come the start of the year you can re-spec in mind to buy and compare benchmarks and features of the two builds as well as costs.

It is a new micro architecture, so expect it to be priced competitively to the SB equivalents in the i5/i7 SB range. I think we may see a retail price of £240~ for the top model in the FX line, but it may be as low as £215, when things settle, and bulk buying prices remain what they are. This will probably go down or up depending on how well the new chips compete in the high and mid end market. To get the approximate prices for the rest, just take fifteen or twenty odd quid away from the top price for every step down in the range. :)

These are however very rough estimates, based on some $ to £ conversions of bulk prices and estimated margins for retail, so expect figures to vary, as above. :D

My advice would be wait till you are in a position to build the computer. No one knows what the prices will be on launch, what they may/maynot drop to in 2012 and what kinda deals they'll be. Plus theres gonna be many different bulldozer chips, covering a whole range of prices (and performance).

Exactly! But you can still probably snatch up some cheap DDR3 RAM, a compatible mobo, psu and case in the run up to the CPU purchase. :)

Yeah, im saving up atm and will finish at christmas time.

I have £100 atm, then my B-day on 20th sep :D

Then christmas to get the rest of the dosh i need.

However my dad could have work for me next week at his place, where i can earn about £250/£300 a week :P

Looks like you have some exciting times ahead of you, Tibbz! Have fun and don't forget to post the pics of your build, when it is finally time to get it all together. :)

Of course :D

Cant wait till i have enough money to get it up :P

Only bad thing in the next few months is going back to school -.-

Got my first science GCSE in November :/

Hehe, wait until you have to get through a uni exam session, or a competency cross examination for a job interview by a managerial panel! You'll recall that science GCSE with much fondness, I assure you, mate. :D I'm confident you'll be fine though.

Personally I'd be looking to nab some DDR3 now, hard drives, case and other sideline bits and bobs as you go. Leave the motherboard and CPU last, who knows what's going to happen in the next 6 months! I don't think DDR3 will get much cheaper, look at some of the 8GB kits!
