Newell: We have to convince EA to come back

its a list of games with something like xfire merged into it...

the prices arent anywhere near competitive on a games release ill be glad when steam has real competition and they cant run it like a monopoly

Besides that obvious fact i have already posted the other aspects.

What? Valve don't set the prices of games? How will other DD services make publishers charge less? I still don't understand why publishers charge more for Steam when Valve take a much smaller cut than retail. Makes no sense to me.

Yes, I find it laughable how dumb some people can be.

Steam, at its core, asides from being DRM, is a god damned LIST OF GAMES.

Nothing more or less, I've had that since, errm, I've had a computer.

Theres loads of games I get that I don't have or put on steam if I can, because, why bother? Opening steam and selecting a game is, slower than just opening the game.

Steam isn't brilliant, nor does it make gaming super easy or better. Origins will be no different, its another program, from EADM days you never needed it open except when downloading, none of my games on it need it open, so much so that I've never opened EADM since origins was release so havent' updated yet.

Sorry but, Steam is a store, I don't need, want, or care if all my games are on steam.

I open Firefox, thats not on my steam list, I open, steam, thats not on my steam list, I open dozens of bits of software all with task bar icons, or from the start menu, or good old shortcuts. Why does anyone REQUIRE Steam when we all got along fine without it?

I don't mind steam, I dont' mind EADM, I did prefer that EADM was a downloader over Steam being more invasive and irksome, I assume Origins is becoming closer to steam, the fanboyism over Steam is getting almost as bad as Apple fanboys, who love it, for simply no good reason whatsoever, and think of anything non Apple/Steam as an afront to humanity itself.

Sorry are you trying to suggest it is better/more convenient to have my list of 206 games on the desktop/start bar? Are you insane? Also the social tools of Steam that make it so much easier to join friends in games and organise events.

Add to that the space needed for 200 odd games and the discs etc. As a middle aged old fart I just don't have the space either. Steam is great for removing all the clutter and just having what I need in 1 space, just like my Kindle does for books.

I also use other download services and will use oroigin for B3 however I have no issue or worries using Steam even if it is a monopoly no one forces me to use them and there is still plenty of other avenues for buying PC games.

+ Game downloader
+ Game updater
+ Friends and community group system
+ In game chat features (Steam overlay)
+ Game news
+ Stats and achievements
+ Screenshot manager with upcoming video recording

Yeah, it's just a game list.

Don't start him ffs, we'll get the standard drunkenmaster mini novel to read. :o

I find Origin excellent for what it does. Steam is okay but the weird fanboyism for it is creepy. It has effectively killed off the second hand games market on the PC by limiting gaming to one account, generally costs more to purchase games and is an unavoidable bit of software. If it were EA to make it, the forums would be up in arms!

However, it is Valve, the beloved gods of gaming. They sell hats on TF2, you know? You can buy one for £4.99. A virtual hat. Really. A bit like Sims content, but you get less. All very odd. I was never much of a TF2 player anyhow but when I last logged on, it resembled a special-needs pantomime session.

However, Steam did bring to the table what PC gaming much needed: auto-patching. The days of "Ohh, now what version have I got? Is it the Gold Euro 1.7678b9?" may be fading, and for the better!

Fanyboy means in favour of without reason or logic & that has not been the case here in this thread in regards to Steam, as there has been plenty of logical & reasons given.

I have games from GAME download, Games on Windows live market place & games on Origin, there is nothing that really sets them apart from each other in regards to service & features so i just go on price alone, with steam on the other hand there are plenty of things that set it apart from all the rest.

People who like steam like it because of what it is & not because Valve is behind it. Strip out all the features & everyone would regard it just like the ones above & care not one way or the other.

Strip out all the features of a Ferrari and you have a VW polo.

It's the features that make steam, so yea if you strip them away it's the same as the other Clients, but the features are there and thats the point.

I don't have any particular issue with origin so i'm not overly fussed myself tbh.

The main "beef" I have with Origin is the seemingly childish approach to the DD market EA are taking. They see that Steam has taken most of the cake, and to get some they take their games off Steam to try and draw customers to them. Plus no one likes having they're games spread out among different clients. I have 40-odd games on Steam, and if I had to go between two clients to access all of them, I probably wouldn't own half.

What about all these site's online now where you just buy the game key and use it on Steam/Origin?! Are they legit or what?!

From my experiences using EA download manager, comets DD system and steam, steam is by far the easiest to use, I just wish their non-sale prices were competitive
