Buy EP3.
Supercharge it.
You can buy the pre super charged corolla t sport compressor for a reasonable sum. they have better handling than standard corolla and 215-225bhp stock...
Evo said:Hot hatch antics in the Compressor feel rather like ragging a hire car - engine screaming, chassis surprised and not entirely happy with the pace it's finding. It's an experience that's pleasurable in a Hertz because you know you can dump the keys and run away at the end, but not so nice when you've coughed up the price of a new GTI.
Evo said:. Although the supercharger should help with this, a maximum figure of 158lb ft at 4000rpm won't exactly leap out at you
On the cut-and-thrust lanes of middle England it's the motor that lets the Corolla down first. Go to overtake from 30mph in second and the Compressor gives an initial surge as you floor the throttle, but that subsides quickly and you're left watching the rev-counter until it passes 6000rpm, whereupon it starts to sound and feel like it's coming to life. Unlike the Civic Type-R's VTEC, it isn't aurally seductive, sounding harsh and unhappy at high revs.

Ah.
I think its pretty fair to just ignore the Corolla when considering a credible hot hatch.
On the one hand evo say 158lb wont leap out at you, yet its more than a civic type r and thats at 4000 revs not 6000 like a civic.

It's about how and where that torque is delivered.
Torque isn't the be all and end all, even a Formula 1 car has less than 300lb. (i'm quoting Antony Davidson from yesterdays Spa pracitce session)
The reason a type r engine is fun to drive is because all the power is in the upper range, it feels more like a sporty car. As fox said if I just wanted torque to put me back in my seat i'd buy a diesel.
You need a lot of torque to make you smile, you only need a twisty road and a stock type r to do the same.
Actually i'm not a fan of the EP3, or the FN2, not a fan of their look or the way they drive. Infact in stock form the engine even feels held back and weak.

. Didn't look in a nice a condition as that, but it was a runner from what I was told.
