Which tablet?

Xoom for £349.

What you reckon? Should I wait for the next-gen tablet? (I've never owned a tablet). Or do you think the Xoom is worth it at this price?

If you're spending that sort of money, get a low spec iPad 2 (or if you don't want an iPad, get a Transformer instead).

Am I missing something? From everything I've seen, the Asus appears to be a much better kit than the galaxy tab 10.1, just that the samsung looks a lot nicer and is lighter. Also, the screen is a bit better on the samsung.

What other reasons would people choose the samsung over the asus, as everything else for me points to the asus?

nah, I'm not Apple at all - so it has to be Android. Also, the lowest spec ipad is only 16gb and £50 more.

Xoom is 32gb and £349.

The Transformer doesn't have the same storage.

They all seem to have the same spec - dual core @ 1ghz, 1gb ram, decent screen etc..

How about a HP Touchpad?.......

the screen is definatley better on the Asus than the xoom. Asus gets quicker updates too and comes with some good bundled software like office suite and cloud storage. Keyboard with USB and USB slots is a great add on.

Ive had the debate with myself of a Tab vs Xoom.
And have come to this conclusion.

Im coming from a iPad 1 3g 64Gb.
Both are lighter.
Both are slimmer.
Both have better specs.
Both have similar battery lives.

The Tab is better looking but is limited and expensive for what it offers.
The Xoom is more of a work horse and a combination of SDCard Slot, USB, HDMI & price means that unless i hate the Xoom when i nip out to view one in a bit, it'll be a no brainer for me.

what about the Asus eee pad?

Not sure tbh.
I mean they look nice, and have good specs. But rumors of buggy software and the fact they look silly and overly large without the keyboard just puts me off.

The Asus EEE Pad seems to suffer a lot from quality issues (there are lots of people reporting dust under the screens and I had 2 that had this issue). The speakers are rubbish and the screen quality is inferior to the Tab.

Its is heavier than the Tab and as my GFs dad put it 'it looks much less professional'. It does have more features but I was put off trying my luck on a third because Asus' response to my email about the dust problem was to write 'Close!' back to me. If you google their customer services they are very poorly regarded.

the tab doesn't have an expansion slot does it? this makes me hesitant.

also, the fact that a new generation of hardware is imminent makes me think now is definitely not the right time to invest in tablets. i think the current crop will be obsoleted in a really obvious way - chances are by (circa) Ice Cream Sandwich but definitely by April next year.

Im sort of in the same mind.
I just cant decide between buying now or waiting. As if im being honest, i cant see what good quad core tablets would do for me beyond games. Which isnt what i'd be using it for, and i still think we're a good few generations away from seeing Android get serious about games beyond 2D casual games.

Went and had a look at the Xoom/Tab/TF, all 3 in all fairness are nice.
The Tab just oozes quality though, i'd say its arguably higher quality than the iPad imo.
The Xoom is nice, but a bit podgy, and the TF is somewhere between the two...

There are plenty of great 3D games...
Nothing of AAA quality though. Most of the ones ive seen are a bit 'meh', with a few big titles from the likes of EA thrown in.

And there certainly isn't a big enough install base for quad cores compared to duals for app developers to target the quads for their games over the duals for a while yet.

I cant decide what to do.
Tab or Xoom.
Ive discounted the TF due to the multitude of random problems they have. And cant decide between the Xoom or Tab.
Although the Xoom has HDMI & USB connectivity, an adaptor is needed to use them. Which would make it no different in reality than the Tab in that respect.
So then it just comes down to price, nice & svelte for +£100 or -£100 for durable yet big.

Hmm.
The ICS is still the kicker for me. I dont want to buy a tablet that wont get an update to 4.0...
