Deus Ex HR, how do you enable Dolby Digital

Deus Ex Human Revolution for PC.
How do you enable surround through coax digital cable?

As my PC is upstairs & I play on the big screen downstairs I've opted for a single audio cable rather than 6 wires, ie. using coax digital with onboard sound.

Trouble is, while films may output Dolby Digital / DTS in surround, games only output stereo, even though the loading screen to Deus Ex HR advertizes Dolby Digital

The game is patched up2 to the latest version through Steam & I tried messing with settings in Windows but only ever get stereo in the game :(

Does anyone know how to enable surround in the game through a digital coax cable, thanks.

IIRC the game uses fmod which supports various dolby options but I'm guessing the game designers haven't taken advantage of it - its probably the stock splash screen for fmod.

EDIT: Tell a lie the stock splash screen for fmod is a simple logo and simple text of the fmod copyright and nothing more.

Ahh, fmod.

Actaully, no game has ever pumped out surround through the coax cable, unlike the xbox 360.
Maybe this is a saving grace & the game does support digital surround audio and its just a drivers issue or something?

Im getting the latest audio drivers now + 3DSoundBack_Beta0.1 from the Realtek site. Fingers crossed.

I have a xonar 1.3 deluxe in my media rig & that could probably do some magic with the digital output so I may try that..

Erm.... so although this game has a Dolby Digital logo at the begining....it doesn't have 5.1?

All i can seem to get is stereo which is rather disappointing, they could have at least put to speech through the centre speaker :(

I may as well play it on my headphones if that is the case.

I think you'll need a soundcard that can convert surround sound in to a DD stream. I'm using an essence stx and it's working fine, getting really good positional sound with dolby headphones.

Which is different from a 5.1 soundcard?

Just been having a little play and the centre speaker is working but the volume is rather low ......and confused:

If i fire a weapon it uses to front 2 speakers in stereo and not the centre. If fire at a wall the centre speaker makes the pinging sound of the bullet bouncing of it....

Isn't that a bit backwards?

Hey sWiZzLe, it sounds like the centre/sub could be crossed.

Well I can't fit the Xonar in my game rig as theres no room because the pcie slot above the graphics card is blocked by a copper slab surrounding the CPU & I cant put it in the slot directly below the graphics card as it then blocks the 480soc fans.

I tried the game in my media rig where the Xonar lives as that needs a gtx470 so as to play 24fps video smooth, but it only has an IDE Hdrive & due to a game bug of only loading aprox 400mb textures into VRAM; whenever the Hdrive is accessed there is a major stutter.

Afaik this is a bit of a mis-leading logo on PC games.. It basically advertising Dolby Digital Stereo not 5.1. However that dosnt mean you cant get DD 5.1 but you need a Dolby Digital LIVE! supported soundcard (they can be had quite cheap these days. I used to have a terratec one that cost about £30.
Dolby Digital Live!

The silly thing is with a DD Live soundcard you will get 5.1 digital on ALL your games providing they have 5.1 audio (which 99% do). So the DD logo on the box is purely a ploy for you to buy it thinking you get ir from the game when really its the hardware doing the work.

Its silly i know, but alas that is PC's for you :)

FIXED IT :D

Using crappy onboard sound too.
Just install the latest Realtek drivers & you'll have the option below.
Now, when I play the game the digital amp displays a DTS input & the game is in real surround now.

DTS connect is the same as Dolby Digital LIVE only its the DTS variant.. so you are essentially doing exactly what i have stated only in DTS format. While im sure this is suitable for your requirements its not the same as Dolby Digital though (although in my opinion equally as good).. Which was your original question ;)

I also just installed the lastest R2.64 driver and i still have no DTS option like in the pictured above :(

My HTPC is connected to my pioneer 920 av amp by optical out
(Using a Asus P8P67-M PRO motherboard)

I don't have the "device advance settings" in the top right of the pic of the Realtek HD Audi Manager or the "DTS Connect" tab either:confused:

Also just reinstalled the whole 2.64 package to be sure...
