Cars

The issue with threads like this is that life circumstances change, as do priorities. Realistically we could all list virtually anything, and justify the affordability, as if we really wanted to we could just offset anything out there against a mortgage account or something. In the scheme of things not many cars are very expensive, so we could all do this.

In reality as people age their priorities change and they will often squeeze less and less out of their car budget as other things move up the pecking order.

So this said i cannot possibly say what is realistic, as it entirely depends on what i am feeling like at any point in my life. Both a Bentley Flying Spur is realistic, as is a generic runaround. Realistically i cant ever see myself wanting to go much beyond the realms of the "bargain" bunch of supercars, stuff like a £25k SL55AMG fits this category.

Ultra dream car i guess would be a Phantom Drophead - motoring perfection.
Ultra dream classic car would possibly be a convertible ferrari of some kind.

Doing what? Because that really really depends, i know lots of 50 yearold chemical engineers earning around the 45 - 60k mark, hardly Aston + house / child / wife running money.

As you say it very much depends what exactly you go into, but £100k+ isn't that usual in the oil and gas industry. A lot depends on the calibre of you as an engineer, whether you're management material, working abroad/offshore etc.

I know a chem eng grad working for shell, offshore on rigs, who's on ~£55-60k (nearly half is offshore pay though).

From what I have experienced from shadowing an intern in BP, they pay lots in oil/gas esp offshore work. Also I never said I was planning on getting married :)

It depends entirely on your priorities but it is quite feasible to own and run a V8 Vanatage with an income in the lower half of your budget while owning a house and looking after children.

Why is it lol?

Because it's full of people with ordinary cars convinced that one day they'll realistically own a supercar. Statistics show us that 99% of them will instead one day own a diesel Audi. Hardly anyone actually gets to own a supercar.

A few will be lucky enough - but we did this back in 2003 and the results were absolutely hilarious to look back on a few years later :D

Hopefully I'll be in that 1% :D

My ambition has always been to own a murcielago before I turn 35 and with 9 years left I don't think I'm doing too bad at the moment considering I've only been working a year and a half and already own an M5 ;) But as said circumstances always change so all I can do is try to stay on track.
