my daughter is nearly 2 and she is scared of everything... i took her to see Peppa Pig on monday and all morning she was saying peppa's name and when you asked her if she was excited and looking forward to seeing peppa pig she was run around and dance singing peppa's name... now when we got there and peppa pig came over to her, she wouldn't let go of me, wouldn't say hello, i had to stroke peppa pig and give her a cuddle but my daughter was having non of it.. however the second peppa pig turned away she was waving bye and was all happy again... anyone else with children of a similar age experience the same thing?

lol, she isn't shy with people etc, its like she will walk round the house picking things up pretending they are spiders, but when i got her a real spider i found, she ran away crying...

Does she spend any time away from her parents? Does she have play dates or go to play school? Maybe a little independence would help her shyness.

She's just really shy maybe?

I was like that until I was 5/6, or so i'm told anyway
Me too. I was like that until about.......wait, what's today's date? :p

Funny enough the same thing happened to my daughter she love the cartoon at the age of 2 but when she saw the fake peppa person in a suit version that was bigger then her 6ft,2 dad she bust into tears and ran off. :p

You have to remember a cartoon is very different to a child. Plus pepper pig is 2d cartoon :o

You got her a real spider? WTF?
LOL. Just LOL

I just imagined the face any little girl would make when you showed her a giant spider

Children pick up fears from others so maybe she has picked up on her mother over reacting to a spider or something.

My boys 4 and 2 are not scared of anything when they are together but my oldest goes really shy for ages when new people are about. Then hes back to shooting people and being a T-rex. Funny dudes.

EDIT: THAT IS ONE SERIOULSY SCARY LOOKING PEPPA!

It's a normal development stage - imagine from a evolutionary perspective if little ones never had that drive then we'd all have got extinct pretty quickly. This is why the fear stage is generally never really apparent until a baby starts to reach the crawling phase as prior to that it would impart no advantage as one would assume the baby would be with either of its parents. Once they have ability to move away from security and safety then is advantageous for them to develop the ability to let their parents know there is something amiss.

dude look at the differences I have a large tv but does pepper tower over your daughter no its a small cartoon character on the tv. Check the enviroment out it isnt the home she is used to its outside with alots of childen some crying, some shouting with joy at the sight of pepper pig etc. Its not always that she was scared of that maybe it was just to much. My daughter isnt scared of anything that I know of but when she saw pepper pig she cried and run off also.

Don't worry about it - they'll grow out of it.

My daughter is 2 1/2, and up until the last few weeks she was petrified of flies, ladybirds and wasps etc. If she was out in the back garden and heard one she scream and run inside immediately. We told her the usual, 'they've more afraid of you' etc and it finally stuck.

In fact it's quite amusing to watch her in the back garden yelling 'GO AWAY FLY!!' at the top of her voice :D

I was exactly the same when I was a kid. Just because they're dressed up in a "friendly" outfit doesn't change the fact they're a complete stranger.

Ahh, peadobear. Dad, make the strange man go away :(

My little girl (nearly 2) loves bugs; especially spiders. I don't know what she finds so amusing about them but she laughs her head off at them. She'll pick ants up too and watch them run around on her hand.

She says hello to every bug she sees too which is just cute as hell.
