so ive book a suprise long weekend in london next weekend for me and mrs, fri-mon.

will be staying in the Marylebone Hotel in the West End.

so far all ive booked is to watch Wicked at the Apollo Voctoria on the friday night.

also plan to go the the aquarium and see the obvious big ben, london bridge etc.

can anyone suggest anything not obvious to do or see and maybe a restaurant or two?

thanks.

Boat ride along the Thames, possibly on the clipper. Nicer way of seeing the city and travelling to one of the main destinations than the tube.

Restaurants: Soo many to choose from. Clos Maggiore in Covent Garden is supposed to be lovely and romantic (see tripadvisor), but I still haven't gone there yet!

Pop up to Camden Town if you feel like shopping for some weird tat, eating some weird food and haning around arty/cool. Lots of good places to munch and drink around there.

Camden's a hole, I hate the place!

I always recommend it these threads but how about checking out Borough Market, followed by a wine tasting at Vinopolis?

As above Borough Market is pretty cool, also maybe Covent Garden. Restaurants will all depend on what type of food you like but there are so many you should easily be able to find something to suit.

Also remember to buy travel cards to get around with, single trips paid with cash on the underground are about £4, buses about £2 but a days travel card for zones 1-2 (should cover where you would need to go) is £8 for peak and £6.60 for off-peak (after 9.30 and all day sat and sun).

Bad advice, get an Oyster card (£3 refundable) and go that way, miles cheaper.

Not really, the daily cap on the oyster is the same cost as a travelcard and you dont have to worry about getting an oyster and then getting a refund, and I'm fairly sure on a trip to London you would use it more than 3 times in a day so it makes sense.

Get a ticket for one of those open top bus rides - best way to get a feel for a city imo. IIRC you can use it all day and get off wherever/whenever you want.

is oxford street were the posh shops are? im sure she will want to buy a new bag of some kind.
Don't bother with Oxford Street, it's hellish and is only your generic high street shops anyway (H&M, New Look etc.). If you want to take her to some posh shops then check out New (Old?) Bond Street or Kings Road. Covent Garden is a nice middle-ground, but also hellish due to sheer amount of tourists.

Boat ride to Greenwich is brilliant if the weather is good, ride to Kew is also good but takes too long. Going on the ferris wheel is fun. Check Timeout as there's usually an open weekend somewhere, sometimes great sometimes crap. We went to the BoE and had a tour round that last year which was brilliant. If weather is nice Parliament hill is great for the views. The bunkers underneath the MOD are interesting. The City is interesting if you have time on the Friday, it's dead on the weekend. There's often something interesting going on at the Barbican.

Edit: Cabinet War Rooms

Go to oxford street in the evening and she will like all the shops and you could go to one the many good restaurants in the side streets.

regents street, Piccadilly circus, then on to covent garden area is ok for an evening out.
