Do people still buy on release day these days?

Ive really found myself in the last year changing from buying games on release, to just sitting back and waiting a wee while, even big release games can be dropped to 17.99 within a matter of weeks.

Im really now reaping the benefit, the last few months Ive picked up Homefront (£4.99), Enslaved - 3 for £20 with a couple of kinect games, EA MMA for £8, Marvel Vs Capcom 3 for £14.95, to name a few.

The only game I will buy on launch for the rest of this year is Fifa 12 on the consoles, wait a few weeks for the win!

I get of enjoyment out of waiting for the right price too.

I'm more discerning than I used to be, for sure, but that's because it got ridiculous. I had about 3 games still shrink wrapped or stuck in their box without the merest suggestion of a play.

I have Dragon's Age 2 still wrapped from my birthday in April, but I'll play that when the long winter nights draw in!

I've pre-ordered Fifa 12 and will probably pick up AC: Revelations and Zelda on release. The rest I'll wait for now.

I agree with you that there is some bargains to be had waiting for a bit after a game comes out. Though it does depend what it is, take COD for example, drops so little in price that I don't really see the point in waiting.

The only ones I tend to pick up on release is cod (for reason above) and games I really want, which this year is deus ex (though this was 2 days after but shhh I am counting it) and I also have BF3 on pre-order because I want it and can't wait lol.

Everything else can wait, like picked up dirt 3 week ago or so for £20 :)

Certain titles I simply MUST HAVE on release day (e.g. GoW3, Zelda, Mass Effect 3) and I will pay full price.

Other titles I know I want to play, but I can wait a month or two, so I wait for price drops (e.g. Batman AC, HALO CE, MW3).

Others I know i'll only play through once, so I buy on release day, complete, and then sell on while the price is still high.

I generally do buy games that I want on release day.

I only really buy the yearly COD game, then the odd game scattered through the year that interests me, I don't have the time to buy every single game that comes out.

The only other games I will 100% buy this year is Uncharted 3 & Battlefield 3.

Forza 4, Fifa 12 are maybes.

If its something I know I want I'll buy on realese day if its something I'm sure about I'll leave it a month or two and pick it up cheap :)

Im seem to follow the trend only order for release the top games ie MW3, Gears 3 fifa 12 and the rest is best to wait.

I look at deals websites most days so generally see all the good deals on other stuff. Gaming has never been so cheap and generally I break even or make a profit on the bay so its all good really. :)

I only buy on release if they offer me something decent.

I have the special edition of resistance 3 on order as it comes in a steelbook and has a vinyl effect disc. Uncharted 3 special edition is on order as it comes with some dlc and the case is meant to be a steelbook I think (or at least different to the standard case). Battlefield 3 is on pre-order for the extra weapons and battlefield 2 map expansion thing.

Still waiting for infamous 2 to drop in price as the special edition only had some dlc and the hero edition was over priced.

I dont usually bother with pre orders or buying on release... But on 11.11.11 I shall be :D I'm spending a lot of money on a new PC, and to not get the game on release day would be bordering on blasphemy

I am of the same mind as Mark I had bought several games and they had dropped by 15 quid in a matter of weeks! So now I can hold off and either buy it second hand off someone that bought it at release or reduced online.

For really big games, yeah, but for most I wait and use CeX and trade old games.

I'll be getting Forza 4 and Batman AC on release day without doubt.

11.11.11 is the day i get no life.
I rarely every buy games on release, but some are worth getting: there's only a few types of games i play, so skyrim is definatlely worth the full pre-order price. plus i need it on release day to continue with the modding team that i am on :P
i got the witcher 2 box set on it's release day for £24, and i only just noticed that it was it's release day after i bought it :P (I had heard about it, but wasn't tracking it enough to know that it wasn't actually out lol)
(all on PC though, i don't know why i entered a console forum here haha)

I haven't bought on release day in recent memory.

I'll probably get Forza 4, and I will get Skyrim. Other than that, there's nothing I've heard of to interest me enough.

I'll play the new Assassin's Creed, but I'll probably borrow my brothers, rather than buy it.

I only get the odd title (GT5 was the last), I'll get FM4 and maybe, just maybe BF3 or MW3, but everything else, I'll wait, as everyone is finding they can drop to half price in a matter of a month or so..
