Hi guys i been looking for a car to replace my astra for ages and have decided to go for one of these 3 but i just cant decide which one will be best.

PEUGEOT 206 1.4 HDI
VOLKSWAGEN Polo 1.4 S TDi 75
VOLKSWAGEN POLO 1.9 S SDI 64 5dr [AC]

As you can see from my choice there all Diesel cars as im looking for very good Mpg but would consider petrol if i could get one that does very good mpg.

How old are these cars? Avoid the 206 like the plague, and stay away from the SDI unless you like travelling at tortoise pace.

The 1.4 TDI out of the aforementioned cars is the best one by a mile, but unless I lived in a city I wouldn't bother with any of them. How much do you drive?

Not worth getting a diesel in my opinion. A petrol 1.25 Fiesta would be a good shout, although personally I would get something more fun :)

Ohhhh, so this is why they sell like 5 diesel cars for every petrol car these days. Pure misinformation and the inability to do simple maths. I silently facepalm everytime someone comes into the office saying about how their brother/sister/friend has just bought a brand new diesel car because it does 60mpg!!!11...

...but they only do 50 miles a week. :(

arghghg why can't people just....think about stuff and not be so impulsive over everything.

As above, you don't need a diesel for that mileage. It'll cost you more in the long run than a petrol.

I would choose VW over Peugeot based on build quality and reliability.

I also think a petrol Fiesta might be worth considering.

I would also go for petrol over diesel for such a short commute. I prefer driving petrol cars and it seems the diesel would offer little economic benefit.

Why do people dislike diesel cars so much I know 2 people both with PEUGEOT 206 1.4 HDI one hs an estae and one has the hatchback both report no problems both cars are 02 plate and do great mpg.

I have had several diesels over the years only had to do glow plugs and normal routine maintenance.

Its just the mpg thats stands out to me on diesel cars.
