Surely it was obvious in the first place?
Not a conspiracy, just what you would call human nature, something we simply require (Oil and Gas), we cannot put up a good enough argument against the companies because as far as we are concerned, as long as our houses are warm and our cars filled, we simply don't care how its done or for how much (though at some point people will start caring if they can no longer pay for food).
Its never the fault of a few intelligent calculating people, they are simply playing with what's already there, our own selfishness and love of convenience.
We are always to blame, always.
Wars over petty royal squabbles
Wars over petty religious squabbles
The burning of Alexandria Library (much more specific, but very relevant)
Just to name a few.
We look for scapegoats just as much as the government does, we are human after all, we cannot accept it was our fault, i find it pathetic.
I almost cry when i hear the words liberal democracy, we are nothing of the sort, a liberal democracy would see people working for their rights and freedoms, instead we work to destroy it, simply because its inconvenient for us in times of unchecked human emotion.
Government is simply plausible deniability for the population, if we aren't somehow connected to their actions, then all the wars weren't "our" fault...they were our democratically elected governmental officials faults.
I suggest people grow up for once.
