This game worth buying?

I like there to be quite a bit of character development in games and this is what gave me some temptation with this, or is it just next level new weapon quite paper thin form of advancement?

I have only started the game but from what I can see, You first choose one for four characters they are each experts in types different of weapons:
Blunt, Sharp, Gun, Throwing.

Then you have 3 talent trees (Fury, Combat, Survival) each time you lvl you get one point to spend.

As for the weapons you can collect loads of them, spend money to repair/upgrade making them stronger you call modify them with the loot you find, I have just made base ball bat with nails.

I hope this helps if you are thinking of buying head over to GMG, use this Discount code for 20% off: GREEN-MANGA-MING1 make sure you do it tonight as the offer ends Monday!

Randomly worked out why my game crashes... basically before starting my save, I have to go into any of the other options.. ie audio, video etc and change one thing, I can change it back and then play

makes no sense, but hey.. works :D

Not sure if it's already been in here but...

When I load Dead Island after a format - It just black screens now for about a min before the menu shows :/ - any idea?

Level 20/21 if anyones up for playing at some point, although only play if a certain mate of mine is on so might make another character.

v1bez is my steam name.

Oh dear god, just realised I have been making a massive mistake.

I've been editing the video config file and saving but not making it "read only."

Every time, the game has been reverting the settings back.

Just re-applied all the custom values, saved and set to read only and by Christ is there a difference. And I thought the game looked stunning before!

DEAD ISLAND TWEAKER TOOL UPDATED
The tweaks menu no longer closes automatically when you check/uncheck an option
Shadow maps: You can now set the shadow map resolution to 512, 1024, 2048 or 4096
Field of view: Expanded selection of values ranging from 62.5 (default) to 90 degrees
Added an option to enable overcast weather
Fixed a bug that could cause the program to crash when selecting non-option menu items

Will it get you VAC banned?

It’s highly unlikely. The tool doesn’t modify any of the game files directly, which is what VAC looks for. It simply extracts the required files from the game’s data packs, puts them in the Dead Island folder in “My Documents” and makes the necessary alterations.

Now, the game does install a keyboard hook and does run a routine to detect if Dead Island is running in the foreground. If it does detect DI, it prevents multiple keystrokes from being processed, otherwise, it lets them through. It doesn’t send keystrokes, inject code or do anything else bot-like, so I’d be very surprised if it resulted in a VAC ban.
Does the helper need to be running while I’m playing? Only if you use the “Prevent keystroke repetition” option, as it installs the keyboard hook. All the other options, like overriding the field of view, disabling motion blur, etc., work without the helper running once they’ve been set.
Is this safe from a VAC ban?
All this tool does is manipulate your configuration file, which you can do yourself in Notepad. So no, can't possibly result in a VAC ban.
Is this VAC safe ?
100% safe. I can actually play this game now, lol

Saw this posted elsewhere, Maybe worth trying to see if it fixes anything for you

Some users are experiencing ridiculously LONG load times when doing things like loading the menu, game, etc. It can literally take over 5-10 minutes for some people. Oddly enough, this may relate to error logging that is done by the game.
1) Go to My documents\deadisland\out\logs
2) Right click the crash.log -> Properties — and mark the file as “Read Only”
This will prevent the game from writing data to the log because it is no longer writable (hence Read Only). Oddly enough, this may fix your long loading times
.

We need an official response from Valve on this, it's for the best..

If you want to try it though, go ahead the file is available :). If you're concerned, don't use it

Small Spoiler Alert

I just got up to the level in the city, just after you enter the church and take out the bells. I have done as many side missions as possible and clocked up about 12hrs game play

Really enjoying this so far :)

Well i have a good game with some randomer tonight. Followed me everywhere and played co-op how it is ment to be played (working with each other), which is rare these days.

But forgot to deactivate my automatic shutdown gadget and computer just shut down in the middle of me driving us to the next mission. Felt quite bad and dont know how to find him again lol

Didn't realise the time so best leave it for now and get some sleep for work tomorrow.

is this game worth a punt? i know there was a lot of doubt about the game and overall quality? whats the single player like, is it worth playing or is this generally just better coop.

Defo worth a go.

Some slight adjustment to the video config file is needed, due too the lack of settings in game.

Keyboard and mouse are abit notchy at the moment due to some sort of bug. That said the game works flawlessly with a 360 controller, if you would prefer to use that.

Missions are fun, zombie bashing never gets old. Upgrade/create weapons. In all, a really fun game.

If you buy from GMG before tomorrow and apply the discount code; GREENMANGAMING1, you will get 20% off too, bringing the price down to circa £23.
