****** will be ******...

Later that evening, alone - I actually considered it for about 5 minutes as my life wasn't really going anywhere at that time and the prospect of free things was appealing. I gave myself a slap, glad I did, I could have ended up living in a dog kennel.

bit of a lucky escape for you there

They should be classed as an organised criminal gang. Anywhere they move to the crime rate shoots up. Anything from robbery, muggings and drug dealing to ransoming peoples stolen pets. And yet the Police are made to treat them with kid gloves and 'respect their culture'. This is a new low though. It's usually the euro ****** doing the human trafficking.

What exactly is it about traveller "culture" that is worthy of keeping ?
Quite a lot if you're a *****.

I must say for me this dose mark a point where the traveler community has moved beyond being something of an annoyance, inconvenience and sometimes even a danger to something that must be more tightly controlled. I have lived within half a mile of a traveler camp and it is very intimidating for other local residence and it's not particular fair.

I see the current situation as being completely unsustainable and I see no reason why they should be entitled to live the way they do at the expenses of other residence. To have such large camps so segregated from the rest of the community is always going to lead to trouble.

I would like to see measures put in place where they are accommodated in a much more conventional manner.

If they must live in a caravan so be it. For me the key is that they are much more widely dispersed, camps are no more than 5-10 dwellings and the sites are much more tightly integrated into the existing settled community with a proper address etc.

It's tricky to cope with these people. You either kick them out of their 'permanent' site and they'll just find somewhere else to cause trouble. Or, you let them have that site so they don't cause trouble elsewhere, and they'll wreak havoc there.

Or you shoot em all. I know its drastic but the experiences i've had with that sort leaves me with that mindset.

Doesn't the act of violating planning laws contradict their "traveling" ways? I've always thought it's a bit of an odd one that. If they're travellers, why would they need building control approval and or planning permission for anything?

this actually really scares me, the idea of living in a bubble that nobody else around you knows exists and being helpless to do anything about it.

Just reinforces my long-held view that ******/gyppos are nothing more than vermin

pretty much... its no suprise people dislike them with how they go on.. when the "hoppings fair" comes to newcastle its terrible especially if you go on a night out at the weekend all the gypsy scumbags are out mugging people and causing trouble

You need planning permission to approve land for a specific use. One of those uses is a caravan park. Without planning land is just land and you can use it for anything.

Tbh though the whole "traveler" thing is BS. The only time they start traveling is when they're trying to avoid someone.

I hate the way the police seem to be powerless and scared of these guys. And to top it all off, didn't that Paddy ***** fella win Big Brother?

I live just down the road from there. Was more police than I have ever seen around this morning.

Tht site has been a police 'no go' area since I was a lad. Truly horrible.

Where do you live Savioa?

I live in Leighton Buzzard and was driving back from Luton Airport through Hockliffe at about 4:30am on Sunday morning and saw about 50 riot vans/police cars drive towards Leighton Buzzard from Woburn and wondered what on earth was going on!

In the Buzzard too.

We saw a load of ambulances bomb along the bypass at 9am. One of the lads at footy on nights in the industrial estate over from Pages Park said there were helicopters and loads of old bill booting around.
