Driving Instructor Ramble.

I actually got a minor on my test for going too slowly on a NSL road.

Driving everywhere 5mph under the limit? What does this achieve? People trying stupid overtakes and getting road rage?

To be honest if you've had 100 lessons and still dont' feel confident to do 30mph then... well...
Well.............. I have a license so someone deemed me safe enough to be on the roads. I like to drive extra cautiously, my god what a complete **** I am.

I had my first lesson a few months ago. Instructor took me on a road that led to one of those mini humped bridges that are single file (? lol I dunno the technical stuff about roads).

I drove over it, and then a 4x4 came the other way and crashed into me :D It wasn't a bad crash, though, no damage just a bump. The instructor was shouting and balling saying how he should have checked to make sure no one was going over it, because his side has a blind corner and he just kept driving fast. The man wasn't happy :P

Anyway, long story short I'm too scared to start lessons again lol.

If I ever do, I'll probably go Automatic - because apart from pleasuring myself I'm not good with my hands :(

Shut up lol,

I've been driving everywhere at the speed limit and over at times since I passed my test 6 years ago and haven't had a crash yet, If you reaction time isn't quick enough to react at 30mph you need to change your driving style and make sure you keep your distance.

All you will find is people trying to get past you at every chance and doing silly things causing hazards.

More time to respond to a potential hazard! Shorter stopping distances.

People who go slower than the speed limit incite raci - Road Rage. People behind them will drive really close to the car to try and make them drive faster, or get angry and overtake. In short, it could cause more accidents.

Quoting for evidence.

The speed limit is a 'limit' not a "you must do this speed" rule of the road.

Correct.

Also I booked a test, told him the date, He wrote it in his diary.....then never turned up on the day, Told me I was not telling the truth and had never told him of any test date....even looking in his diary it was obvious he had erased the note. The guy was a tool of the highest order.

 Did he pay for the test?

On my first test the instructors car was rear-ended the day before my test so I had to take it in an Astra instead of the Focus I learnt in. Failed miserably.

Then on my seconds test my instructor tuned up late and asked me what time the test was. Being an instructor i'd have thought he would know the times off by heart. I ended up just having to drive straight there without any warmup practise. Luckily I passed and as I was so happy i just paid him his money for 2 hours. But looking back I should have just paid for 1 .

Well over time I expect I'll feel more confidant driving dead on the speed limit, but for now 5 mph off of the speed limit it is.

Not happy about doing 30 ...in a 30.

My comment about buying a bus pass is actually sounding less comical than I first thought.

I don't think I've adhered to the posted limit in my entire life. (unless there is a camera or plod about :D )
As long as you aren't rabbiting to you passenger, zoned out listening to music or just generally not concentrating on what's around you, it's MORE than safe to do AT LEAST the speed limit..

The limits are there to cater for the lowest common denominator, at least use the bloody limit. :p

As people have said above, you are actually putting yourself and others at more risk by travelling so slowly. Everyone will want to overtake you as I'm sure you are aware. Some of those will do it in the most retarded of places.

You must have noticed this???

Grow some balls and speed up man. :D

Don't let that put you off, it seems like it wasn't your fault from what you said and even if it was you're learning. My advice would be to jump back in straight away.

I'd also stick with manual. Once you get the hang of the gears it become second nature and you don't even need to think about it.

65 mph on a dual carriageway.

See nothing wrong with that, I do it myself quite a bit due to the nature of my car (it's a little quieter lol)

But it's the 25mph everywhere in a 30 zone I don't get. Never mind :P

Least it's just a confidence thing and not a stubborn or ignorance thing.
