6950 CF idle temps issue?

so i have cf 2X6950 flashed gfx cards in my system with NO pci spaces between them, the top car [with fan against the bottom one] idles at 60C with a quiet fan profile. [idle clock is 450]

im guessing this is due to my u2711 and u2410 running simultaneously.

so is this a safe general usage temp? [i can keep in game temps below 80C with a fan profile but i dont want crazy fast fans in 2D mode]

If its too high is my only option a new motherboard with a PCI slot and longer CF bridge?

EDT, the bottom card on 250 idle clocks is nicely at 40C with 250 clocks

I don't think it will cause any detrimental effect to the card. My single 6950 idles around 40-45C with the fans on automatic, its overclocked and unlocked to 6970.

Any temperature up to 100C is ok on these cards, obviously you don't want that temp on idle, but I think you will be fine.

ok thanks^

ive been experimenting with fans, and in my case its hard to keep the top card below 60 without something like 40-45% fan, even then it is only at 57-58C

however if 60C is ok i can have the fans down to 25%

Top card here is 49c with 29% fan speed on idle, bottom card is 0c. My cards are not flashed though I do have sufficient space between them, load temps can get as high as 80c as said don't worry about it too much. My fan profile wont ramp up the GPU fan speed until it hits 80c.

Perhaps just play around with your fan profiles and keep an eye on temps until your happy with something.

do you have 2 monitors? I can only achieve those figures if I disable 1

No single monitor @1920x1080. Both cards will be working harder over 2 or more monitors, may be an indication as to why your temps are a little higher.

What about the Antec Spotcool throttled by a zalman fanmate?

I know there is high and low speeds on the spotcool but it may still be to loud on low, so a fanmate could possibly slow it down even more.

Much cheaper than a new mobo.

Can't fit any coolers in as there is no space where they need to go

I think your confusing what tommybhoy said, the spot cool is a free standing fan inside the case rather than a 3rd party vga cooler.

The spot cool does what it says on the tin, direct it in the spot you wish to cool, in your case towards the GPU's and thats it. In theory it should push cooler air around your cards lowering temps.
