Hey guys

I thought I would share my recent enlightenment to the video/game rental service that is known as LoveFilm.com

I have signed up for the service. There is a range of packages to suit all requirements, they start at a great £5.99 a month.

I have decided to go with the £14.99 package, this has unlimited film streaming online (PC and PS3). There are over 5,000 films to stream :) Home disc rental does have more films than this though.

I also have unlimited disc rentals per month with 2 discs at a time. This includes films and games.

As I have two boys aged 7 and 8 then the majority of the disc rentals are going to be PS3 and DS games :) Mainly PS3 though. Most films will be streamed via my PS3 to be honest as the streaming quality is good on my 32" LED TV.

The service is great, I have received my first 2 games from them and they are posted in a 1st rigid envelope, so you dont even need to be home for delivery, they even include a pre-paid return envelope for returning the discs.

I can keep the 2 games as long or a short a time period as I want, and when I return them they will then ship me another 2 from my list of required discs.

The lists you create are great, you basically setup a list of as many titles you want and they send you two from that. You have the option to specify a priority list, of low, medium and high. So you can govern what order you want the discs (subject to availability).

Normally you can sign up to a 14 day free trial, but using this link you can try it for free for 30 days :).

I quite liked Love film when I used it. I didn't use the streaming service so switched to Tesco which is cheaper but still uses Lovefilm discs.

And lots of scratched DVD's!

In over 3 years I've only had a few scratched discs, they were always replaced extremely rapidly *ended up with 4 discs at home at once then* and even got a few extra rentals from them. I have also had one that the postie tried to shove through the letter box sideways and snapped it.

First thing I do when I get a new disc from them is give it a bit of a clean, I've found jam on one of them once. But a quick run under a warm tap and a good dry with a lint free non-scratching cloth sorts them out nicely.

I don't use the game service myself, never noticed they did DS games though. May have to consider it.

We're on that deal, though a few months in we opted to pay a year up front for a 25% discount, which is a bargain. We get allsorts from them, films and games. Service has always been good and the few scratched discs we've had have always been replaced.

I'd definitely recommend it.

Have tried the 30 day free trial thing. It's actually a pretty good service. Am impressed so far, but don't watch enough films to take advantage of it properly though.

Just canceled mine. Two main reasons, I've watched so many over the last few years that my lists where stuff I wasn't that interested in and in the last year they must have reduced how often they clean and polish discs as at least one in three wouldn't play properly. But that never used to be the case.
Still a pretty good service if you use it. But you'll be surprised how much you need to be in the mood to watch certain genera of films and if you don't watch films and send them straight back it's a waste of money. For the price of love film you can buy at least two films in HD on iTunes or several more to rent and can get them when you want.
So bit of a mixed review

They've also stopped the extra rental for scratched discs some time ago which is a shame.

tempted to sign up. Always heard about it but never got round to doing it.

I have a 2 months free code if anyone wants it. Go to LoveFilm.com/summer and enter WDE87YTG4.

Can't go wrong with two months free, to be honest!

Enjoy.

p.s. think it might be a one use only code!

I've been with Lovefilm about three years now, in that time I've only had one disc which really was scratched that it was unwatchable, another was skipping, but a quick clean fixed it. I've also only had one disc going missing when I returned it, but of course you aren't charged.

The only thing I feel that has changed is the turnaround on discs, I feel it used to be the case that as soon as you sent it back you pretty much got a new film sent out straight away. There now seems to be a much bigger gap during the processing stage of returns and despatch.

I'm on a 2 disc package, but it used to be that I could return a film and have another one, so that would be two a week... or four on a 2 disc package. Now though with the turnaround I only really get the one disc a week (or two with this package).

I do think it's a good service though and have no plans to stop using it.

To be honest I have been signed up to the service for 3 days and I have watched 4 films using their streaming service already - so not bad.

I know that may slow a little bit over time, as it's a new toy at the moment.

Its great for a long time, I only really slowed down after ~3 years and about 400 films. Just not much left I really want to watch, found I either had films I wasn't bothered with so kept for weeks on end, or waiting weeks for new releases and buying/renting on iTunes/virgin anyway.

I don't use my love film subscription as much as I should (read, use 1-2 a month max when I have unlimited) but I keep it as I use it on the PS3 quite a lot. Can't fault the service I've had, I'm just a bit lazy so don't get as much value for money as I probably should.

I have a one disc at a time, unlimited online streaming plan at the moment, get maybe 4-5 discs a month, and watch 2-3 films a week online, all for about £8 I think. Used to have the top package with games, but it didn't work out too well as it usually took me too long to get through games and send them back.

I was with Lovefilm, through Tesco, for about four years. I loved the service and couldn't complain. However I left because they have fallen out with Universal and do not get the new releases from them. Films like Inglorious ********, Kick Ass, Bruno and Scott Pilgrim are not available.

It pained me to do it but I moved to Blockbuster, solely for the films in stock.
