Booyaka's Garage to Family Entertainment Suite Thread

Nice email from John Lewis today

I have looked into your request and will be happy to match the price of £1429.00 for the Samsung PS59D6900 television, BD D5500 blu ray player and two pairs of SSG-3100 3D glasses seen at Simply Electricals.

That's the TV, blu ray and glasses sorted then! :D :D

Got a call this morning from the credit card fraud team - questioning the various weekend transactions!!

Tv, blu ray player, 4 sets of glasses, 5 speakers and new computer case all purchased this weekend!!

At least I know they are looking out for me!!

should be some good updated pictures tonight.

Room is now fully completed in terms of walls/plasterboard/window/insulation etc

TV Bracket arrived today, Speakers should be here tomorrow, TV thursday.

Joiner is building my TV frame/rack so that should be done today as well. Starting to take shape nicely!!

My SkyHD is plugged straight into my AV reciever using HDMI works fine. best way as you can use the amp for switching, I have everything through mine.

It doesn't do 5.1 via hdmi , only optical. I'm pretty sure that's the case but I'm happy to be proved wrong :)

Yup. You only get 5.1 Dolby digital through the optical on a Sky box.

@ the op.. from one building thread to another, this is looking good :)

Cheers for the comments

Main Tv wall - Joiner knocked this up today. Very impressive stuff - gave him the tv measurements, bracket measurements etc and he had it all worked out and started asap. it's about 20 cm's deep but with enough room around the tv to allow for ventilation and also the ability to move tv in and out a bit on the bracket etc.

The left and right front speakers are going on the left and right of the tv at the middle height of the tv and the centre speaker just below the tv.

Lots of wiring to be completed yet so the joiner has left the plasterboard on the bottom right fairly loose so that I can remove it and get all the network wiring etc attached and plug sockets/hdmi cables etc in before it gets plaster.

Left side and right side of main wall will be 2 units (about 80cm height) to house the various electronic components, speaker wire for rear speakers showing on the left side, the rest to be input as we go.

Not much more work internally other than plastered which will probably be next week now. External work for the joiner is still to be done including all the wooden boards/fascias etc which will be getting done later this week.

TV bracket arrived - it's bloody heavy:eek:

Speakers should arrive tomorrow or thursday/ TV to arrive thursday as well. Various optical cables and HDMI arriving tomorrow. Still need to order Amp and Sub so will get them tomorrow.

Off to IKEA tomorrow for a couple of cabinets for the left and right side so should have them to sort out.

like a kid at christmas today!!

Speakers turned up , blu ray player and glasses turned up and amp arrived!!!

Gratuitous equipment pictures to follow tonight!

Are you putting in any kind of sound insulation to fend off any noise from tumble dryer / fridge / whatever ends up in the storage bit?

only a tumble drier going ( and bikes/tools etc) in there but it's fully insulated and I to be honest - it's hardly ever on!!! I can always switch it off.:D

Looks great mate, on a plus note for me my girlfriend said the other day that when we can afford to we'll move to a bigger house where i can build/convert a garage or something similar into a music room for just me and my hifi.

Long, long, long way off affording to move house but its nice to know she'll let me do it when we have room :)

Looks great so far, have you put in the cables sockets for a projector? I guarantee you’ll eventually want one to do that cinema room justice!

Blu Ray player - wasn't that bother about one as I have a ps3 but it was part of the price match deal with John Lewis.

The very lovely - Monitor Audio W280LCR's without their grill attached. Very nice and very solid built kit. Will get some better pictures when I start installing them etc.

TV should be arriving tomorrow so will have to set it up somewhere and test it out!!

Still need to find time to complete all my network cabling etc over next few days but with my wee boys' birthday party and stuff this weekend - time will be scarce!

Ceiling should be getting plastered on Friday and the rest next week sometime. Once that's done can get the speakers installed etc

got a 10m hdmi in the roof gap and there is spare cable been pulled thru for a socket if needed in the roof.

Never say never!:D

One thing I've always wondered why people put TVs so high on the wall?

In our living room, you walk in and the TV looks to be far too low, but then you sit down and it's at perfect eye level. It's one thing i've noticed whenever i go round to friends houses, you always end up looking up at the TV and I end up getting a sore neck by the end of a film.

busy weekend with the wee mans 4th birthday etc so not many updates.

Plasterer is in today and getting ceiling done, walls tomorrow etc.

Just purchased XXLS400-DF Satin Black Subwoofer' by BK as the final piece of equipment for the setup.

Should be great fun setting all this up shortly!!!
