Vile Kids - What do you do?

I saw some vile kids the other day in the park just breaking branches off some beautiful trees which are hundreds of years old and throwing them about. Looked like a bunch of deranged chimps. They literally vandalized one tree before moving onto the next. Really made my blood boil because it was so mindless. There is a groundsman who works hard to keep the area looking nice for the public and then some mindless little sods come along...

The thing is I have children of that age and believe me if my kids did such behaviour I'll be the first to give a clip round the ear, but I can't do that in a business as it will only invite more trouble than a solution for my mates business

unfortunately, kids behaviour will be a product of their parents, environment and piers

as you are not in a position of authority to discipline the kids, and they will not recognise you as an authority figure, any such action you would take would only be teaching them violence and aggression to solve violence. for all you know, the parents way of dealing with them may be to smack them round the head and you are seeing the results of this.

it is one thing to apply some mechanism of discipline (and I don’t just mean smacking / clip round the ear) to your own children but that has to be in the whole context of their environment, safety net and parental reasoning and teaching.

If you actually managed to sit down with them and ask them what they wanted, why they were here and doing what they were, it may take you a while to get passed the dunno just bored or cause we can answers.

a clip round the ear may have worked pre/post WWII but that was only because the kids recognised the authority in the adult and understood it. it doesn't work in our society like that anymore.

they may be known to the police already so work with the police.

Keep paying your taxes. Kids with parents on benefits have to eat!

would you rather they be the ones cooking & serving your food in McDonalds etc with the attitude and mindset they have?

some kind of national service or voluntary personal development and education / work programmes otherwise, seems like a fair trade off

Or Soylent Green.

Yeah... I'd vote Soylent Green. Feeding the feckless their own terminated children.

If we can feed an African family Forres a pound a week or what ever it is. Then surly we can it for less than that with no shipping costs to pay. :o

Still think benefits, should be in the form of physical goods rather than money.

Would the police do anything though?

They can talk you through what you need to do and can point you in the right direction. If you had cameras and audio, they could probably do something straight away. It's always worth logging with non emergency number, as it's a record that can be referred to and used at a latter date.

Record it on CCTV / Phone and call the police

Don't they just say it was unlawfully obtained or somit? Thats what most video evidence gets told when i read news items of for example abuse towards animals and animal rights movements stick up cctv but when court time comes they say they cant use it. Which tbh is daft because if it visually shows it they should act and not hide behind laws when the evidence is right there on the screen.

Why would it not be valid, police are always using CCTV, yoU probably need to stick up. This premises uses CCTV sticker to cover yourself though.

Play classical music in the shop. Or a high pitched noise only kids can hear. Might not be a good idea if you're next to a pet shop though!

Tell them what they are doing is wrong. People rarely if ever do this, and typically they don't really know how to respond to an adult so just freeze (IME).
