Is it me, or is there a lack of gamers in the midlands?

So i've been living in Staffordshire now for 2 years since moving from Kent.

When I lived in the south I had a good group of gaming geeky tech friends who i'd hang out with weekly either at our houses or the pub.

But up here i've meant very few gamers. Not many people seem to share the interest in tech. My fiance who is at Keele Uni has come across about, 2 people into games and computers etc.

I'm guessing i'm just not looking in the right places to find like minded individuals. Or do people just like their sports up here ? lol

Just any thoughts really if anyone lives in places where they don't seem to find many people to befriend who are really into this sort of thing. Plus i'm at work and bored

I'm a bit unsure why liking sports deserves a 'lol'?

Look for internet/gaming cafes?

because we're too busy being good looking, keeping fit and being at the forefront of musical genre, that's why!

i know about 6 people who are mad into cod and 1 who has exchanged life for world of warcraft, so there are gamers in the midlands.

Yeah tbf thats a good point. Gamers aren't really known to go out their way to socialise. Plus World of Warcraft may be a culprit everywhere.

it was a tongue in cheek comment. i went through a phase of caning quake live for 3 hours a night not too long ago but i knocked it on the head, i know gaming can get out of hand, it wasn't something i was prepared to get too deep into as fun as it was.

you might be better posting similar in the games forum. some members will also have gaming id's in their sig.

Don't worry i was more replying to the second part of your post.

Could do, just seems like the further north you go the less gamers and tech-orientated people there seems to be :)

Plus randomly adding people on Xbox Live/PSN/Steam seems a bit, odd

Where abouts in staffordshire are you dude? I'm in stafford and have a few mates who are hardcore gamers (CS/TF2 etc) and all meet up often for a lan match. I'm sure they'd welcome a new member to the clan :)

Newcastle Under Lyme near Stoke

That would be great. I'm not exactly hardcore but i do love my games.

As much as if i had known about that i'd love to have gone. I have no way to get to Telford as cannot drive, plus money as anything before the 30th/31st of any month i'm always skint. But that would have been great to attend.

The last major gaming event I went to was Game Stars Live in London several years ago :(

That's funny, because I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Midlands.

I am pretty sure the red line is longer and I was nice as I did not include the channel islands

I don't game at all so anything more than the occasional blast on TF2 because I'm bored and happen to be sat at the computer at the same time is hardcore :P

You're literally 15 minutes away mate, in fact I work closer to you than where I live.

Send me an email in trust and I'll hook you up :)

It's because Staffordshire is in an area with a breached space-time continuum and so they are 20 years behind the rest of the UK, at least if the social attitudes, fashion and suchlike are to be believed. Give it 10 years or so and they will start to get broadband etc and gaming should pick up.
