"Found" footage style movies...

Seen most of those in the OP, but Grave Encounters I've not seen yet. Looks superb!!

Is it out on DVD over here? Can't find much online about it

Everything, it would appear. :p

It's well made, frenetic, frightening, violent, tense and the finale is pant-staining. The screeching of the Madeiros girl is bad enough without it swinging a hammer around!

Still, horses for courses. :)

I beg to differ, it looks cheap. The blood doesn't look real (all the blood stains look like food colouring). For instance when the little girl bites her mother, my god that was ridiculous. It's not tense from the very start you could tell what was going to happen. The finale was better, and the girl thing in the top room was a little more freaky, but the reporter was nearly as annoying as that Blair Witch muppet.

Well, I disagree. :p

Watch the second one anyway -- you might actually get more out of that. There's far more story and action. :)

I second this. I watched [REC] 2 about 6 months ago, didn't enjoy it as much as the first movie. I watched it again a few days ago and it all clicked into place, so much so that thinking about it now, I actually think 2 is a better movie, mainly because it expands the origins of what is actually going on.

Also "that" scene at the end of [REC] 2 that echoes back to how [REC] 1 finished, really creeps me out!

I also love this sub genre of Horror. Unfortunately I don't have any movies to add, I just wanted to post a big thanks for such an awesome list. I'll be sure to check out every movie I can get hold of from it :)

No problem...I had a feeling there might be a lot of others like me who love this sub-genre, regardless of how cheesy and predictable it can be sometimes.

watched grave encounters last night and the start was very very good, it buit up great atmosphere. didnt like it towards the end of the film though as i thought it just got a bit too silly. Shame really but dont get me wrong it was still a good film. Very well set up in that you could imagine paranormal shows being like that. Also liked most of the characters...well apart from the 'medium' in it.

*SPOILER*
The thing that annoyed me was the way the corridors changed and how time seemed to stop, Just seemed a bit silly and took away from theimmersion and scariness for me. The other spooks were great in it but when that started happening I just found myself laughing at every supposed "scare"
*END SPOILER*

Ooh I just remembered a good one
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
Not exactly found footage but definitely belongs in the sub-genre.

On the subject of Apollo 18 - IMDB says "two American astronauts were sent on a secret expedition". Does that mean to the moon? Or on the mission? Because you can't fly Apollo with just two people.

It's got potential, but it will ruin it for me if it isn't realistic, even if it is there's a risk of it being done in poor taste. We shall have to wait and see...

Just heard the best reason yet why Apollo 18 isn't real (as if we needed to prove it  ):

"You don't launch a Saturn V 'in secret', just like you don't crash a transit van into your neighbour's greenhouse 'in secret'." :D

Well, Atrocious should be out on DVD now and it's well worth seeing. A couple of moments in that really got me! :D

Got a screener of The Tapes today and gave it a whirl, and it's pretty awful. Avoid.

Saw a trailer for V/H/S at work last night and it looks absolutely fantastic if you're a fan of this kind of movie.

Here's a few links to other found footage style movies that have come out since this thread went to sleep :D
