Convince me to buy a Civic Type R (EP3)!

I agree with Tim. Two mates bought cheap (at the time) 51 plates for about £3.5k and haven't had any real issues over the past 2/3 years, one of them is over 100k and he bought it with 70k. Cosmetically the paint is thin anyway, if it aint pebble dashed yet it soon will be. Mine was spotless when I bought it, looked like sandpaper on the front after 3 years... but when it was moved on the guy who picked it up said it was in fantastic condition for its age (gee thanks, git! I didn't want it to go :().

I'd love my EP3 back, but I'm hoping to get a DC5 of some sort next year. On a savings mission!

I'll be selling mine most likely next summer, stay tuned!

Will be around the 8.5k mark depending on market, 2004 60k miles NHB.

Whilst I cannot see the point in this whatsoever, would it not also be reasonable to assume the the money that must have been spent making a 1.4 civic look like a convincing modified Type R would have offset the cost of buying and running an actual Type R?

Unless you're 18 of course.

I'm referring to this pistonheads listing

Some of those DC5's have been on sale for a long, long time. And lolSVA prices

Yes sva are overated, what I'm trying to say is that I've seen many peeps try and buy a dc5 for 7/6.5k- they only ever succeed with extremely high milage(like the one you posted) and cat d write offs.

You'll need a budget of at least 8000 for a decent DC5, anything less and you'll be buying a higher milage and likely far less mint car.

Trust me I tried with my budget of 7k, visited a lot of cars in scotland. I travelled from aberdeen to edinburgh and glasgow-all ******** with sagging seats and signs of rust on the rear arches( people forget to underseal these cars on import and touch up paint doesn't cover it). In essence you get what you pay for mate. I ended up just saving more and getting a car that I wanted in stranraer on the west coast.

I was shocked at the price of tegs like you when I first started looking at them, I reckoned that an older car would be far cheaper but they seem to hold market value extremely well. Due to the rep that they once( still?) hold for the best FWD ever made.

Saying that I have seen silver cars go for a fair bit less-about 1k less in fact for similar milage/spec. But honestly they don't look anywhere near as good as a blue,NHB or model.

My point was that those cars you posted links are priced in a bracket you'd deem acceptable, yet, they are not selling. Both cannot be true. I'm looking for a DC5, I was about to put an offer on a 8.2k CW with Gruppe-m, K100 and massive list of suspension and handling mods. But he was frustrated at the offers not meeting his expectations and is now just stripping it and is going to sell it as OEM spec, at one grand less. I wished him look and said I'll see how he's doing in a few months. Some DC5’s are selling, not only the more ropey ones, but when the seller comes down to earth a little bit. The market is incredible niche, and with insurance and fuel up and the economy down cars like this take a beating.

It’s a buyers market :D

Well i wish you luck, just be careful with overly modified examples. Honda designed vtec to "kick" in at a certain rpm, constant engagment may lower the reliability of certain cars.

Have you driven one yet? First car i've driven with LSD, bloody hell you go through these things into roundabouts and the grip is crazy:eek:.

Unlike my old car(220bhp glanza) which was awesome when it actually got the power down:p

Thanks, I really want one, but I can't justify to myself the premium some of these cars are carrying. I've driven a DC2, loved it and cried into my cornflakes when I couldn't insure it. Now I'm just on the lookout for something driver focused and rewarding. DC5 is up there, DC2 keeps raising its head but I'm not sure I can be bothered with rust. Elise S1/VX220 has popped up too but that takes raw to a whole new level :D
