Losing Weight

A side note, weights....to do or not to do while trying to loose weight. Nothing major as I can not afford a gym membership. I have a set at home.

Muscle weighs more than fat. But muscle burns calories even when you're sitting at your desk.

You should really adopt some cardio first to get your lungs and heart working at their optimum. Then once you're comfortable with that, and maybe seeing some early results, take on some casual weight training too! Weight training is much harder if your lungs and heart can't perform properly.

Thanks for all the advice, I think hearing a few people on here that were in the same situation as myself overcome it has helped.

Should I just concentrate 100% on the weight issue before I throw anything else into the mix.

Light weights after a jog and some pressups & situps. More reps, lower weight

atkins probably the quickest way, most will probably dismiss this as bad practice though

B@

I loved the atkins as I looked great after only a few weeks and loved the food I could eat (being a bacon / sausage / egg fiend). I'd say it has its place but obviously a lifestyle revamp is far preferable and more healthy.

Any exercise that increases the heart rate helps with weight loss. However high rep low weight is for girls that think they're toning their arms by doing it :p.

I've lost half a stone in 2 months through taking it easy and doing the following

* 1-2 sessions in the gym a week, 45 minutes of Cardio followed by about an hour of arms/back/chest, then into the Sauna for relax.

* No eating of Biscuits (I used to average about 6 biscuits a day as I can't have one with out tea) not had biscuits in 4 weeks, I've also not had any take-aways or anything necessarily that bad in a month, with the odd exception.

I still eat crap, just once a week, I also go clubbing once a week.

Everything in moderation as long as you do exercise and eat fruit instead of crisps/biscuits (that was the hardest part).

You can actually see from my trousers where my belly used to overlap my trousers, I fit comfortable in size 34 now as I used to be a 36.

5'10", 13 1/2 stone 22 years.

I imagine it'll be a different experience as you're quite a bit older, but guaranteed the only way is to eat in moderation, eat healthier and exercise.

My diet is very simple and keeps me trip, despite a sedentary lifestyle. I eat once a day. That's it, nice and simple.

Normally around noon, could be a salad one day, sandwich the next, or a roast dinner. Whatever really.

Wow, I'd just be so grumpy from being starving all the time.

wow

Not really getting a lot of vitamins/nutrients in you, is it a massive meal or just an average size meal!

I play football twice a week. In my mind this isn't exercise but something i look forward to. If i was to stop i would be concerned i was going backwards, this spurs me on.

People might remember I did LighterLife about 3 years back.. Don't do that. Pointless.

At 20st 9lb about 6 weeks ago, I started running. Everyone says its dangerous but as long as you are sensible about what you can achieve, and how much of a massive douche you'll look, it's possible. I've lost over 15lb so far, along with cutting calories down a fair amount. I did have hypnotherapy to help, which has definitely helped me stay off of the crap food.

I'm still a big chap obviously, but it feels amazing to have got into a position where I'm genuinely losing weight through diet and exercise :D

Since January I've lost around 5 and a half stone with a couple of months break in-between where I just maintained my weight, mainly through diet, though I do walk around 3 miles a day to/from work.

The main changes I made were to drastically reduce my carb intake, but I still get carbs from wholemeal bread and vegetables, so they aren't cut out completely, due to the higher ratios of fats and protein in my diet I don't often feel hungry between meal times and don't get cravings for a lot of the bad foods I use to eat. I still have the occasional treat now and again so not really making much in the way of sacrifices. I look and feel a whole lot better as a result.

I still have a few more stone to lose, but I know I can still to this way of eating and get where I want to be.

Ridiculous, that's not even a "diet" it's starving yourself. You're probably skinnyfat and look awful.

You're doing more harm than good by doing that. As much as you may think it's healthy, it just isn't. I wouldn't be surprised if some of your teeth fall out or something from lack of nutrition.

I'm in a similar situation. I was 16 stone 10 a couple of weeks ago. Have been doing weight watchers online since then and have already lost 8 pounds. Going to start cycling soon and revive my old hobby of hill walking. Cutting down on portion size, cutting out takeaways and fizzy juice and drinking loads of water seems to do wonders.
