Morning Folks!

My contract is due up in December leaving me eligable for an upgrade - currently with Vodafone with an iPhone 4 - previously having a Blackberry and before that a HTC Hero.

So i've moved from Android > BB > iOS...

I am definately tempted to move back to Android as found it far more customisable (even with my iPhone4 being jailbroken) - but my experience with the Hero wasn't great, I know it was of an older breed - but found it very sluggish. The BB was great as i am a heavy texter/messenger but internet use/app support was poor - also I have one for work so it's nice to spice it up a bit! iPhone is slick as you like, very responsive and sturdy - but hate iTunes and hate the lack of being able to customise...

Now although I like a few apps - I am by no means obsessed with them, and the ones I do use are likely to be on Android anyway (Facebook, Whats App, Around Me, Cyanide and Happiness, Google Maps, Shazam, Dropbox, Tube, IMDb, Football SC - mostly...).

So what Android products are coming up which will be worth a go - If i was to get one today it would be a Samsung Galaxy II (very good from what i've read) - and i dabbled with ROMs on my Hero - so is there any good resources for recommended ROMs on current android phones (think i used XDA Resourcing or something?)

Cheers!

Also - whats the resale value on a iPhone 4? MINT condition - been in a plastic sturdey brick of a case the whole time so not a scratch!

:)

Was watching Daybreak this morning. Most places on the web that bought phones off you were giving £250-£270. the bay and a certain trade-in centre were getting/giving the best prices of over £310.
fwiw.

You can't compare the hero to the new gen of android phones. I threw my hero on the ground in frustration at how slow it was. The desire was fast enough but the SG2 blows both of them away. Any dual core phone will be a vast improvement.

There should be a whole slew of new Android phones launching in the next few months. The standard bearer is the Nexus Prime, which is rumoured to be the new Google Experience phone from Samsung. It'll run Ice Cream Sandwich which is the next major version of Android.

I'd also expect to see big releases from the major players like Motorlola and HTC.

If you want a phone now, the Galaxy S2 is the best on the market. Very quick, good battery life and excellent camera.

Blackberry 9900, best BB ever and im stupidly impressed with mine...sure not as fancy as Android or the iphone but still a very impressive device.

What was your old BB? The new browser as of OS6 is certainly a large improvement on the old one. Also I'm almost 100% that all of the apps you listed there are compatible with the BB9900 which runs OS7.

I did assume as much and hence the post - to find out what sort of thing I should be looking for!

My previous BB were 9700 Bold (I think?) and more budget 8920 or 8950 I forget all the numbers now!

The HTC Hero is a horrible, terrible phone compared to the ones out now.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is the best Android phone overall but it isn't for everyone, so the HTC Sensation has to be worth a look too.

There are no confirmed dates on the horizon as of yet but you may want to wait for 2 reasons -

- You'll get the latest Nexus Prime or other top Android handset instead something that is a few months old

- The iPhone 5 will likely be out before the next wave of Android devices, so on the off chance Apple have gone balls to the wall with tech (unlikely but not impossible) you might be tempted by that

Oh, one last point, the Bold 9900 is an excellent phone as Spawn said, it could be worth a look.

I'm still on the hero, and going by friends who have the desire if you've got a 1ghz snapdragon that's fast enough!

I'm currently waiting on the new range of 1.4ghz phones, just so I'm a bit more future proof, but ultimately if you liked using Android just get a much beefier phone, maybe wait for the new range of dual core's to come out, which hopefully will be mid range for when Quad core comes... never thought I'd see a quad core in a phone if I'm honest!

9700 was a decent handset but the 8520 perhaps??...one of the worst BB's ive ever laid eyes..terrible plastic pile of crap and only good for teenage girls who like to BBM.

The 9900 is very well built, stainless steel band a la iphone4 around the phone...size and width is similar to the old 9000 Bold and the screen on the 9900 is super sharp and crisp...best screen ive seen along with the touchscreen and keyboard combo...simply the best BB ive ever had the pleasure of using..the keyboard is a dream come true lol.

Id definitely give one a go or try one out of you can....its really a nice handset...absolutely love mine to bits.

When is the newer range due out then?

I'm happy to wait a few more months after contracts up

Im in the same boat, currently gor a standard HTC desire, I quite like the samsung and possibly the sensation, but im not sure it will be worth staying on an expensive tariff..

Im not overly bothered about better hardware, as the 1ghz snapdragon is fast enough for my needs, the only benefits I can see (for me anyway) would be a slightly better screen and a better camera.

Exactly the same for me, want a better and bigger screen over more cpu grunt, also at the end of my desire contract, but don't like anything that's already out, my contract price for this 18 months just past was great at £25 and free phone

Nah, with the higher-res screens about, and if you're running a few different things at a time, a dual core will definitely feel faster and smoother. My 800MHz Desire Z crawls if I have lots of stuff open and I haven't restarted it in a few days.
I understand the SGS2 is currently the only Android phone with GPU acceleration for the browser and GUI, so it should be the smoothest of the lot.

If you've got a Desire and fancy a better screen and camera with just a slight power increase then get the Xperia Arc. If you look in the other thread you can see we've got it for £12.50 a month after cashback on only a 12 month contract!
