as thread really, got prescribed champix from the GP as my last attempt failed after 3 months due to a craving and a cold crisp beer or 6.

has anybody else used champix? how did it go? what day did you want to not smoke anymore? any side affects?

i'm looking forward to being able to taste again!!

any hints and tips for me?

know 3 people who've done it:
1 quit and never went back.
1 quit but smokes the odd joint.
1 quit, smoked again, quit again and is still off it.

so pretty positive results so far!

they felt like crap sometimes, nauseous, especially one of them. But then you get used to it and it's fine.

ps. why wait 6 days?

Taking a drug to stop you from taking a drug seems, ironic

Stopping smoking due to the gain in health must be worth it alone!

Nothing like a good health scare to get you off the cigs. Worked for me and haven't touched one since.

People only stop smoking if they actually want to, saying you want to and really meaning it is something else, I was quite a heavy smoker but, got up one morning felt like crap, decided I had to quit and here I am 6 years later not smoked again :) .. funny thing is about 2/3 nights ago I had such a craving to smoke dunno where it came from ..

Best of luck to you man, I'm a smoker and looking to quit soon (again) so I know how rough a ride it can be. My first attempt with champix failed because of a whole slew of misinformation, but it's definitely going to be on the cards for my next shot - fantastic stuff, you really do forget that you want a cigarette. By the end of the second week (when I was supposed to have quit already) I was down to 3 or 4 a day without even trying.

i'd rather smoke than take a drug that has been known to cause suicidal behvaiour

surly smoking is a form of suicide? if you're unlucky.

i'm actually looking forward to saving the £150/m more than i am the health gains. i guess it's because i'm already pretty healthy apart from the smoking ofc.

I gave up last year, after about 30 years. I managed to just die down and stop over the space of a week, with a few bits of nicorette gum. Never really felt any major side effects, I just turned to food and beer instead, seemed to calm the cravings down quite a bit.

only one way to stop smoking, and that is to not smoke

+1

I quit smoking 4 years ago.

One day I just decided to quit and did. No drugs or patches or anything else just no smokes.

I firmly believe if you really want to quit you will, no amount of drugs or other aids are going change that.

I used Champix, they made me feel really funny and not myself; I felt in myself not right and was glad when the medication stopped. I would never take them again given the choice.

Relapsed after I had a drink.

Yep i used champix...i stopped smoking last monday so its been almost 2 week since i last had a cig...in fact the champix played havoc with my guts so my doctor lowered my prescription from the strong tabs to the lower strength ones.

Heres the thing....champix did help but honestly stop taking the tabs and go cold turkey...honestly if you dont, you will end up using the champix as a crutch and its not good for your system.

Like i said i used champix for the first 2 weeks of my treatment...by the 3rd week i stopped using Champix and just went cold turkey and im still alive:D:D

After 20 yrs of smoking i have to say i feel so so much better now...of course i still have the odd craving but its a mind over matter thing.

Yep one of the side effects of taking champix is suicidal thoughts/tendencies but i never felt that in the 2 weeks i was on them...if anything they made me quite emotional but thats about it.

Personally i think prescribing champix to someone who has mental issues isnt exactly going to help tbh.

non smoker for nearly 12 months now... Not been that hard. I bought a 10 pack of Malboro 2 months ago, smoked 2 and gave the rest away Didn't enjoy it at all.

Will Power, dont use that drug crap, its a waste of money that could be spent on people that actually need medication.

Must be a sharp drop in serotonin for that to happen.
