Failed my driving test this week... How many attempts did it take you?

3 Times,

1st - Failed for driving to SLOW in deep snow, it was a 60mph 'single lane' flat fast country road if that makes sense, I went to the speed just below where the car was sliding about (just under 30mph I recall) - my driving instructor argued with the womans desicon but they wouldnt overturn it.

2nd - Large 3 lane roundabout, I looked for oncoming traffic, non, I went onto roundabout, got to the 3rd inside lane for a 5th exit right turn, as I did a VERY fast moterbike came flying down the road from the exit/entrance to my right and nearly hit the back of me - fails me for not predicting oncoming traffic, even though it was that idiot going over the speed limit.

3rd - Past but with my driving instructor and a 3rd person in the car to witness as they knew I had BS reasons before hand.

So far never had an accident, im hoping it stays that way.

Over 10 years ago now, but yeah I felt I was singled out for the assesment company to meet there quoata for 'x' amount of fails each week or something.

I got 4 minors, one of them was keeping the revs high at the traffic lights (2k RPM)

Launch control lol.

My instructor told me to do that in the lessons to get away from the lights quickly, so its not my fault.

Ah that makes me feel a little better! I think I'm still a little angry about it but in hindsight he was probably right..

I was angry too, as it was such a silly mistake I made that could have easily been avoided, but I guess nerves got the better of me. Second time was a breeze.

I've always maintained you should only get 3 attempts to pass your test.

If you haven't proved yourself capable within that time, then it does point to the fact that when you finally pass it was more likely the lucky attempt rather than you have attained the ability to drive reasonably.

At least with 3 attempts it gives a chance for nerves or some random event to scupper your go.

After that, tough...driving isn't a right, more a privilege.

Passed 2nd time, should have passed first time. Failed for changing lanes on a dual carraigeway when somebody pulled out infront of me from a slip road. In his words it was my right of way i shouldnt of moved over. Asked him would he of rather me have an accident and was told he did not want to discuss the matter lol :(

First time 3 minors

Don't believe what people say about those passing second time being better drivers, if they were such good drivers why couldn't they past their test first time.

passed first time but did 30 1 hour lessons. Passed 2 times but only did 10 1 hour lessons. See?

Just for reference sake. I passed second time. Failed first time for doing in a 40 in a 30.

My instructor told me to stick it in neutral and put the handbrake on at traffic lights. I think he told me I'd fail if I left it in gear at the lights. :o

And how about people who are nervous wrecks, purely because it is a test and are fine on their own/instructor.

Passed second time. :)

First time I got one major and a few minors if i remember correctly.

Second time was a couple of minors.

Think failing really helped my perspective on driving. Getting knocked down a peg or two was certainly a good thing! :D

So if you fail once for being an inch too far out on your park, once cause some doorknob on a bike was speeding and nearly went into the back of you and once cause the test centre hadn't failed enough people for that day means you shouldn't be allowed to drive?

1st time for me. My friend on the other hand -- 11th time lucky. I think after, say, 4 fails, I think one should take the hint that they clearly should not be on the road.

Then they would never pass anyway, no matter how many tries?

Silly hypothetical really. Any rule that has a line always has someone the wrong side of it.

But you wouldnt fail for just being an inch out on your park. That is just a minor.

It's not hypothetical at all, this is a very common problem and people do pass with such conditions.

Transport is pretty much essential in the uk, due to poor public transport.
If such a rule would implemented. Good luck affording houses in a city.

First lesson, "yea I think you are ready for your test, I'll book it up for you. I just want to see you using your mirrors a little more, so just one more lesson"
Second lesson, "yea that's fine. here's your test date.."

Passed first time.

but then I'd been driving since I could reach the pedals anyway. :D

I agree with this to some extent, but not completely. It's not just a case of ' if you're a good driver you pass first time' anymore, it's all changed. They have numbers to follow and I know for a fact can only pass so many a day. I'm not saying this is what happened to me, but I know it happens.I'm usually very relaxed and observant, but on my test I was a pile of nerves, which I can imagine didn't help.

Passed on my third attempt

First failure - He thought i was going to move off when the light was still red, i never passed the line and all i did was edge forward on the bite to get the sun out of the view of lights. Tried to explain but failed.

Second failure - I was going about 5mph around a dead end with nothing in sight, he asked me to stop the car then failed me because i didn't signal left before i stopped.

Don't really know how fair they were, but i passed on third attempt.
