I see it on quite a few forums, and for some reason find it incredibly annoying!
Maybe its my age, or is it just a sign of modern times, and a general degradation in 'writing' skills?
 
So, what exactly is wrong with using a coordinating conjunction in casual writing such as discussion forums? It hardly constitutes formal written text.

You mean the thread title is So or the subject content begins with a So?

If its the former it would annoy me because I'd click it out of curiosity and then find out its of no interest to me.

If its the latter I really don't see the issue.
