Looking to read a new series, this is what i've read/am reading so far, in no particular order:

(Yellow means i'm still reading it waiting on author to put out new material.)

Song of Ice and Fire - George R.R. Martin (waiting for new book)
Wheel of Time - Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson (waiting for new book)
Traitor Spy trilogy - Trudi Canavan (waiting for new book)
Demon Cycle - Peter Brett
Black Magician Trilogy - Trudi Canavan
Mistborn Trilogy - Brandon Sanderson
Malazan Book of the Fallen - Steven Erikson
The Farseer Trilogy - Robin Hobb
Liveship Traders Trilogy - Robin Hobb
The Tawny Man Trilogy - Robin Hobb
The Riftwar Saga - Raymond E.Feist
Drenai Series - David Gemmell
Troy series - David Gemmell
The First Law Trilogy - Joe Abercrombie
Sword of Truth - Terry Goodkind

Not interested in:

Lord of the Rings
Terry Pratchett (Read a number of his books. OK books but enjoyed the ones above a lot more).

There's some series I haven't read by the authors above, for example I haven't read "The Rain Wilds Chronicles" or "Soldier Son Trilogy" by Robin Hobb, and I haven't anything beyond the "Riftwar Saga" in the "Riftwar Cycle" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_E._Feist#Riftwar_Cycle) by Raymond E.Feist so I could go back and finish off some of those.

Also not read all the books by David Gemmell, though I enjoyed them for light entertainment they were a tad on the predictable side.

I just finished with the Mistborn trilogy, really enjoyed it so anything along those lines would be great, also from the list in general Song of Ice and Fire and Wheel of Time are probably my favourites.

What can you guys suggest?

Update: 03/02/2012

I see no reason to make a new thread for this, may as well update my old one.

I have added a couple of new series to my list of read books, so I took some of the advice in this thread and read The First Law trilogy and also the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. I really enjoyed them both, though I wish I hadn't read the latest book by Terry Goodkind (the Omen machine - it's a whole new series and I found that the previous book, "The Confessor" finished the series quite nicely up until that point).

I know there are some other recommendations here but I am wondering if I am missing out by not getting some more in. So can anyone recommend or backup previous recommendations? I need some new material to read!

Update: 31/08/2012

Updated this thread, looking for a really good new series to stick my teeth into.

The Peter Brett books were awesome, shame it's only two books in so far.

I did try reading the Deverry Cycle but was not a massive fan to be honest. Strange series, think the writing style put me off a little.

If anyone can +1 some of my earlier suggestions, or make some new ones I'd appreciate it.

The Blade Itself: Book One Of The First Law by joe abercrombie

although the main character in this is awesome, i personally think his best one is 'best served cold' but only when you have read the trilogy first

the name of the wind - patrick rothfuss

the black company -- glen cook

should keep you going :)

Good selection of books there mate. Similar taste to mine :)

I'd also suggest you add to your list -

Karen Miller - Godspeaker books

Added some additional detail to the OP in an update, I could create a new thread but doesn't seem worthwhile. Can anyone recommend anything else?

Sorry mods if you don't want me to bump my, frankly, old thread. I can create a new one if necessary.

I would finish the raymond e feist stuff too. plenty of books still to go!

the Deverry saga (starts with Daggerspell) by Katharine Kerr I quite enjoyed. Though it was a long time ago i read them.

Just noticed there are 3 following sagas after it. Might try and pick those up. Also going to give some of those ones you read a try! Great taste !

The way of kings-Brandon Sanderson
The prince of nothing-Scott Bakker
The Lord of the Rings-Tolkien??(Surely you have read this?)
The Silmarillion-tolkien
Monarchies of God-Paul Kearney
Malazan-Ian C Esselmont
Lies of locke Lamora-Scott Lynch
The way of Shadows-Brent weeks
The Warded Man-Peter V Brett

I've read all the books on your list apart from the Gemmell.

You will like:

Brandon Sanderson - The Way of Kings
Peter V Brett - The Painted Man
Patrick Rothfuss - The Kingkiller Chronicles
Tad Williams - Memory, Sorrow, Thorn.

All are fantastic. :)

Definitely look in to Kate Elliott, who i notice is missing from your list. Her Crossroads trilogy is just beautiful. A sort of, kipling-esque understanding of Indian culture crossed with Eagle riders, tragedy, fantasy world building and fantastic characters.

Also, the misses and I like books by Maria V. Snyder(poison study). They are trashy, not overly complex and the opposite end to a spectrum of tolkein, but otherwise an enjoyable read

I loved the mistborn trilogy, however, i was little ooooooooooookay about the ending.

Anything by R. A. Salvatore, they are based in the Forgotten Realms of DnD but dont let thag put you off. Start with the Icewind Dale triology then The Cleric Quintet

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, this time around I have decided to make a start on the Deverry saga as recommended by jakspyder. Will see how I get on with that :).

I will keep the other suggestions in mind for next time I run out of things to read or if I don't get on with these books so well.

I was seriously considering the way of kings by Brandon Sanderson after enjoying the Mistborn books so much but it looks like it's the start of a new series of books, and I prefer not to start reading the first book in a series until at least some more have been released if I can or you spend ages waiting for the next one/forget half of what happenned in the previous books.

Regard Pratchett I have read a number of his books, should really have included those in my list. He has some good moments but some of his books are better than others, and overall there are books I prefer to read over his to be honest.

Tolkien is definitely not an author I get along with so well, as his writing style is not my cup of tea. I did read Lord of the Rings when I was younger I recall but it's not something I would be looking to repeat :P

You finished the full Malazan Book of the Fallen? Marvellous series! Best fantasy ever written.

If you enjoyed it Ian Cameron Esselmont is writing more books in the world. They designed it all between them and whilst ICE isn't quite as good an author as Eriksons it's great to see all the blanks filled and the story fleshed out more.
