Already have Virgin for phone and cable internet, and since i'll be upgrading to a HD TV soon, it just seem to make sense to get it all from one place, getting a HD box into the bargin, and when the installer comes round i'll see if he'll drill an extra hole in the wall for the Cat6 cable i'm going to take from my switch on the other side of the house in readiness for a HTPC ;)

Any value in doing it over the phone ? Any deals to be had there over just doing it the easy way on the website ?

Exisiting customers get sod all.

Do not get TiVO. Im having mine taken back out and Ive went back to sky. The channels are rubbish, the box is awful, slow and clunky, and is so long winded it made me angry! It also looks crap.

I predict the box will drive you up the wall with it's slowness. I also predict you'll probably want Sky back when your (12 month or 18?) contract is up, if not before then.

I'm ia similar postion sky or virgin for BB and TV with sky sports, seems like sky is the way forward

I want the same thing but was leaning more towards Virgin, the thing is, I am unsure as to the hidden costs when I am "building my bundle".

For Virgin, I would get:

  • Medium Phone (free weekend calls)
  • Large Internet (10Mb unlimited d/ls)
  • Medium TV, plus sky sports bundle plus the sky sports in HD fee.
All in all, it comes to £49.90 per month with free installation.

I am 90% sure that this includes the line rental (virgin phone line at £13.90 per month) but am unsure as to whether any of the prices rise after 3 months, in particular the internet price. It's all a bit confusing and not as straightforward as I thought. In addition to this, I have no idea what the contract length is either!

Looking at the Sky prices, to get just TV with Sky Sports in HD you are looking at £55 a month, just for TV! No brainer for me.

^ Well i upgraded my Virgin package easrly this year. Only had Internet with them before i upgraded.

Right nopw i pay £12.99 for:

M+ TV
Large Internet
Medium Phone.

Ofcourse 12months only then reverts back to original price which i can't remember what it is.
So this maybe able to help you if you try to phone up and see if you can get a good dal?

Also, when you add the sum of the individual parts, you get a much higher price than £49.90! I think a phone call is in order.

It's just not itemised very clearly and the the whole webpage feels buggy and I don't trust what it says anymore!

For me the only plus with Virgin is the integrated iPlayer function. My mum uses it all the time as she doesn't like watching stuff on the PC. Oh and ESPN being thrown in which has got me hooked on MMA.

There are so many downsides though, it is slow, no Sky Sports HD. Virgin in my area goes down so often which means all three bits go offline. No Sky Atlantic which is by far the best channel around at the moment.

It's not slow, the old boxes where. The samsung ones are fine. Havent used TiVo so can't comment on that box.

Triple tuner is another massive positive as is the sheer amount of on demand stuff. Sky sports hd is on virgin as well.

In regards to Sky Sports HD, yes it is, just they charge even more for it. I forgot as it isn't on the box downstairs but it is in my parents room.

I love Virgin's TV on demand, so many great programmes to watch. Meant I was never bored. Shame I can't get cable in an apartment though :(

I have a Samsung box and it is fantastic. One thing i have found with the iplayer service though is that it doesn't show anywhere near as much stuff as what you get on the pc version.

yeah i have a samsung box also and no problems here
been with ntl\virgin since the 1990`s and never really had many problems
tv fine and BB has rarely been down in all that time

Well i've got XXL 50mbit internet, L phone with free evening and weekend calls, and XL TV 160 channels with 500Gb TIVO box for £44 month for three months rising to £70 a month after that.

£49.50 installation, no activation.

Bit of a step up from the old Sky+ and cheaper overall even when its gone up to the full price.

Not so bad really, and if the guy does drill me an extra 2 holes so i can run a cat 6 cable around the house from my switch to the back of the TV area, then so much the better.

Wehave an extra room box, wee small new one, doesnt have recording as we have that in the main room, and the second room box issuperb, lightening fast, very small and with a zapper that works from half a mile away when buried on wrong side of bed etc.
Was very pleased. Main room box much slower, but not the samsung one thst people like.

Purchaee with quidco for best cashback deal and months of discounts.

I think sky he have.more.he channels as well.

If sky did as fast broadband ad virgin I would move my current full virgin setup to sky. The virgin box Is slow and sometimes completely unresponsive.

I also hate the unlimited downloads on virgin which they cap my speed after downloading a small amount of data and if you want to stream iplayer for video or radio around tea time I would forget about it unless you like the buffering icon.
