Surprised this hasn't been posted already, had a quick look and couldn't see another thread but apologies if I missed it.

Yes, the cars would have been going fast but it is a delimited road so of course cars will be travelling at speed.

This could have been avoided by better notification of where the roadworks were.

A video of a car passing the spot 2 mins before. Skip to the 5 minute mark.

Exactly. Im not familiar with the track myself but it seems quite a fast section. Maybe this can be confirmed by people who know the track well?

It's one of the fastest sections there, Bergwerk and Lauder Left (Where Lauder had his infamous accident) is on that bit, lots of accidents and fatalities per year.

No marshals, little warning = fast cars braking hard = pileup.

Seem's like the fact they would loose money to have the track closed off whilst the work was carried out has meant safety has been overlooked IMO.

Too large a variation in peoples talent/ego/vehicles for it to be "safe" wish I had gone years ago but I wouldn't go now. The risks if anything goes wrong (financially) are just too great.

Pretty much sums up the reason why ive not been (Take from Pistonheads).

PH quote said:
In short if you mix together professional drivers, petrolheads, idiots, wide boys, daddys money types and ordinary tourists all with varying levels of driving skills and all in cars with different capabilities all hooning in one direction on a dangerous and challenging circuit.

All sums to an accident waiting to happen.

Lifes too short to worry about the nitty gritty, go have fun and be safe ...

Im not sure how much longer the ring operate as we all know it :)

I would love to do the ring but it would only ever be on a private day. No way I would go on a tourist loop.

Just watched that video.

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS and NOWHERE near enough warning to adequaltely shave off speed on a corner prior to what is a crawling line of cars. What is, for all intent and purposes, a race track to be treated like a public road is disgusting. Despite what the technicalities of the stretch of road are everyone knows what they are going there for as does the business selling them the tickets.

That should have been HEAVILY marshalled and had much much more prior notice (You get more on the motorway at 70) Or you know....closed entirely.
