"alcohol is at least twice as harmful to users than cannabis and 5 times more harmful to society"

Has the risk been calculated per person (is cpaita the right word). That's the problem is. See with most of these reports they don't take into account usage rate and 10s of millions drink and no wear near that take illegal drugs. Then people say but oh usage wouldn't increase much. Why wouldn't it.

Although I'm unsure wether drugs should be banned or not.
On the one hand, things should only be banned if essential and personal responsibility should mean you can do most things .
On the other hand I can't see how society could function with widespread drug use. Its hard enough with alcohol alone.

You'll be singing a different tune after an addict high on cannabis breaks in to your house in search of cash for his next "fix", and murder-rapes your whole family. It's illegal for a reason.

REEFER MADNESS!!!!!!!

Agreed, but society will never let it happen. Too many narrow minded people, I would quite happily for an alcohol ban and legalise weed. Would solve many policing/NHS issues, but then the country would lose money!

Have you ever actually met a cannabis smoker? Most of the regular smokers are very docile and would rather sit there watching TV, or listen to music whilst eating junk food.

If they break into your house, I'd say it was more their social upbringing then anything. Believe me ;)

You make this miscalculation thinking that the research would not show this. In fact it would be the opposite, if it was the case wouldn't you expect the number of violent crimes done by cannabis users per capita to be much higher than the alcohol cases? Which I guess is what the "5 times more harmful to soceity" comes from.

This research is the Wordpress blog of a guy that has said things like - "horse riding is more dangerous than ecstasy".

He's a massively over-dramatic 'scientist' who seems to want to cause a fuss for the sake of it.

They "estimate".

It's all well and good saying these things, but one pint of beer won't 'get you high' and make you potentially dangerous, one 'spliff' could very well do that (and I've seen it happen first hand)

That's down to the user, not the drug.

And also depends on what was in the spliff.

hahahahahahaha!!!!!

:D

Any one stoned won't be able to break out of their own house let alone into someone elses! Brilliant.

It does not mean that his work is false though.
Yes this is based of a paper here

Just make sure you have a good joke prepared and you'll have them on the floor laughing.

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa hahahahahaaaa back to your protein shakes :P

I smoke weed every day near enough, as do a lot of may mates. We all hold down good jobs, manage to maintain things like cars, holidays, houses etc., have interpersonal relationships, are never broke, certainly don't break into houses, mug people etc.

Would you rather be surrounded by a group of drunks or stoners? Changes are the drunks will kick the **** out of you, the stoners will leave you to it.

Don't comment on things you know nothing about.

No, he wants to make a fuss because when you analyse the situation from a scientific point of view, there is no empirical or statistical reason for the classification of substances that we have to justify why one is prohibited or another available.

But lets just rely on the good old status quo and propaganda to keep things as they are.

Yeah maaaaaaaaaaan ;)

I'm a cannabis smoker. Managed a whole day at donington yesterday without stealing one car - now that's progress :p

Be that as it may, legalising various drugs AND keeping alcohol as it is now will just increase the overall problems related to these things instead of reducing them.
