The game could have crappy textures and still be a complete dog in terms of performance. Look at GTA4.

I'm not excusing ID, just saying that there's more to it than you stated.

i hope Doom4 isn't like this if this is new idtech 5 i expected more that ps2 textures.

In a Carmack keynote he pointed out that textures on walls and such would be blurry close up, but I guess we didn't think it would be that bad.

You're probably dismissing things a bit too easily. We don't know for sure if those textures are displaying as they should do. Do as LeJosh is doing - check back in a few days.

Wait a few days, let the dust settle, driver tweaks etc and everything will be ok. It's quite often like this at launch, part of the frustration in particular when wanting to play early via back door methods.

That's definitely not right, just looking at where you are on the map I didn't see anything like that - in fact I was in awe at how good the mountain side looks, especially from a distance!
