Nexus Prime

i'm looking at one of these to replace my desire, thats been running vanilla android since may last year.

hopefully it will be a good spec when announced, with any chance the google shop in tottenham court road will have them so i can see the size (4.6" screen brick sized phone?) before buying as that's right by my office.

I guess Samsung will be rubbing there hands together after seeing what Apple have put out nothing major really, this could be my next phone as the 4s holds no interest to me.

Well, it's a fairly decent upgrade (if underwhelming), aside from screen size it's still going to come down to the software, ICS vs iOS 5 and Siri.

Siri looks very good but in reality it might be fairly crap like most voice recognition stuff is. Still, it has to start improving at some point, maybe this is it.

The bigger problem is that the 4S isn't enough to make casual phone users upgrade, it has no real wow factor.

Siri has potential several years in the future. Right now it will end up the same was as other voice tech on phones.

People will mess about with it a few times when they first get the phone then forget/ get bored of it and go back to using their phone normally. Same as facetime, it will be all hyped up and get very little of the user base actually using it.

Never see any pie charts or graphs for feature usage of them in the keynotes interestingly enough.

The screen on this (going by the Apple thread and other sites, people like having a big screen) and hopefully the premium design will make people wow.

Siri is already on Android, it's called Google Voice Actions. People were amazed by that when it was announced and demo'd, but many people I know don't even use it..

That's IF they design this one according to rumours. We all know how rumours work though ;)

The voice stuff in gogole has been there for ages and no one uses it.

Hell double tap the home button on a SGS2 and use it, Its pointless

I can see this happening with the chick at work when she gets her:

Me: "You got another Iphone 4?"
Her screaming: "IT'S AN IPHONE 4S!"
Me: "Same crap though"
Her: "No it isn't..... blah blah blah"
Me: "Why so Siri-ous?"

Me gets killed by being bludgeoned with Iphone to the head.

I hope they release a Samsung Galaxy style version of this on the 11th without the buttons.

aka the SGS2HD

I do agree but it just looks to me that Apple are falling way behind the competition and are no longer the innovators they used to be.

It will be interesting to see how the video camera/camera performs.

They are innovating in the same way they usually do. Take something that has alreayd been done, stick a flash name on it and do some fancy demos and tell everybody it's the next big amazing thing, rake all the money in when people pay for it and then laugh hysterically when nobody actually uses it.

Apple don't really innovate, they polish, refine and market things better than anyone else.

I don't care about the internal specs really, the power the 4S has is absolutely more than enough (just like the Galaxy S II now), but the screen size is my one complaint.

So anyway, I wonder if the Nexus Prime will have the new 16MP camera from Samsung or just a 8MP one?

Doesn't matter 16MP isn't needed you only need 8MP with a 5 element lens with an app that opens in 1.1 seconds!!! :p

Really though, provided it's got the rest of the kit to make the 16MP worth more than marketing fluff then it will be decent.

I doubt it will have a 16MP camera, that just doesn't sound right. :o

Samsung also has a pair of high-end mobile cameras headed for the production line. One is a 16MP main shooter with a back illuminated sensor for better low-light performance (expected to ship in November) and the other is a 1.2MP module with 720p@30fps capture capabilities for front-facing cameras.

I would absolutely go out there and chat up the store manager at Phone4U again to get that on launch day if it's included in the Prime!
