My system specs are as follows.

Core i7 920 @stock
Gigabyte-EX58-DS4 S1366 X58 ATX
Corsair XMS3 3GB DDR3 Memory 1600MHz 3 x 240-pin DIMMs 9-9-9-24
Dark Power Pro PSU 1000w
Western Digital WD 500GB CAVIAR BLUE
Asus Voltage tweak 5870 Stock
Xfi Gamer sound card
Windows 7 64bit

So in computer properties it states 3bg(2gb Useable) so I check online for fixes. I see the fix where you go into msconfig and uncheck or check maximum memory that still did not work.

I have checked for memory remap in BIOS and cannot find anything that resembles that at all.

I then went into Resoure monitor and noticed that is says 1026mb is Hardware reserved.

I have updated my BIOS and all other drivers for all my components. I have not overclocked anything in the system.

I would really appreciate any help as this is drving me nutssssssssssssss.

Sounds right... Windows will use the memory for system overheads. Has your gpu got 1gb of memory?

Yep my 5870 has 1gb memory. So is there no way of getting that hardware reserved memory back? Or does it mean I need to buy more ram to compensate?

Try re-seating your memory, I had exactly this problem with an 8gb kit, 8Gb memory 4Gb useable, turned out one of the sticks wasn't quite in properly so it was detected but not functional

Had this issue before too with 6GB RAM and only showing 4GB useable. Every programme recognises it as the full 6GB but when you look at My Computer/Properties it shows as 4GB useable. After much reading I didn't find a specific cause for this but some people reported that seating the CPU cooler down too tightly showed this message. Also I found that if I do a cold boot after the system has been off for some time for example first boot of the day it recognises all 6.00GB but after a restart it only seems to recognise 4GB. I think it is down to the memory controller on the i7 9xx CPUs. Majority of programmes do see the full 6GB so I wouldn't worry about it too much. You could try reseating the CPU cooler making sure it is not on too firmly. Obviously rule out dodgy stick with memtest86+ and make sure its all seated properley first.

when i had this, it was a faulty stick of ram. I would try one stick at a time and run memtest.
