RIP Steve Jobs.

Such tragic news, the man was such an innovator and his influence over the company will be sorely missed, as will his keynote speeches, he was a great speaker and I really enjoyed his humour. :(

RIP Steve.

Fair point

No, it's a typical c'n'p Facebook status-esque load of waffle that gets wheeled out when anyone dares to wish RIP to anyone in the public eye. The points may be correct, but wishing a 'famous' person RIP doesn't mean that the other deaths that happen every day are any less tragic.

Indeed. Whilst never posting/discussing/paying tribute to those supposed people ever.

Indeed. It's the generic Facebook bile that always pops up at times like this.

Sad he died, I feel for his family. RIP.

But I do find it funny the amount of Steve Jobs sigs in here, seriously?

I hope you do the same when a family member dies.

What an absolutely bizarre thing to say.

This is a technology forum, and one of the (for lack of a better term) 'fathers of innovation' of the entire industry has just died.

I can't think of a much better reason to have your signature as this for a little while (if you want to, of course), my family members dying would have absolutely no bearing on this forum at all, nor would they care or want to be put in signatures.

Comments like the ones you (and others) have made are just the usual smart-arse remarks people say on here all the time, trying to make themselves look 'cool', that is far more embarrassing than a signature, I promise you.

I wish lego or Robbo had posted that (for the irony):p

am I sad for having my employers truck in my sig? Hmm, perhaps, I don't want to know the answer.....

Just had this sent to me
150 thousand people died yesterday.. Children starved to death, Thousands died after long horrible suffering.. good people who die early, women who selfishly give there lives to the family only to die young. Hard working men who never did a thing wrong. Soldiers who fight for the county.. not just ours but all soldiers who believe. needless deaths.. sad deaths that would break your heart if you knew the stories... 150 thousand people around the world will die today and 150 thousand tomorrow.. All deaths are sad.. But I will save my RIPs for the people I know rather than jumping on the RIP Bandwagon for the rich and famous

Fair point

Not necessarily. I loath the random celebrity RIP threads but I don't see any issue in jumping on the RIP band wagon for someone you had a lot of respect or who has impacted your life.

I don't care that much when random celebs die, I do care when British servicemen/women die in Afghanistan, I do care when people who have made big contributions to society in general die whether scientists, politicians or people who have created positive things that have affected our lives.

I don't know or care much about the other 150,000 people who died yesterday or who will die today but I admire what Steve Jobs created and quite frankly his companies' products have impacted my life to an extent. Whether it was taking a girl on a first date to a pixar movie, flirting with someone on wassapp on my iphone, having a map and browser handy on my mobile when I got lost on the way to an interview etc...

Whilst I'm sure smart phones would still be around without Apple and Disney would have still made movies without Pixar they wouldn't be quite the same...

I could not gree with this more! Well said.

RIP steve.

I really, really doubt that. I think that's just something the kids on Twitter have come up with. :p

He obviously means smartphones. At the time of the iPhone launch most smartphones were ugly, slow, complicated things that most people wouldn't have been able to get on with.
My SPV wasnt that hard to use, nor my iPAQ.

I dunno about you, but I don't need to make myself look cool.

I am cool.
