Won a Boxter (standard) for 3 weeks through work. Silver and 2010 edition.

These any good? Its teh convertable and plenty of people are saying they are brilliant cars but im worried it may be a little slow and frankly............. not the 'S' version - can anyone reassure me?

Im really grateful to work and im sure it will be fun but i dont want to feel like a king whilst looking like a pillock.

Can't complain for a few weeks, supposed to be a fantastic drive, make sure it has the roof down at all possible times to enjoy it.

Even in the slowest form your looking at sub 6.5 to 60. Awesome drivers cars with more than enough go.

Start taking it through the corners, taking a roundabout a bit quicker than you normally would and the fact it's not an S version won't make a tiny bit of difference. It's the handling and the chassis that makes the car.

I suspect by the way you have phrased the question cars are not your first love (which is fine of course) and someone who hasn't won a Boxster for 3 weeks has been giving it the old "yea but it's not the S is it!" Ignore the do with outs and enjoy one of the greatest sports cars on the planet, it's more than quick enough for most people unless all you do in cars is accelerate away from traffic lights and race your mates side by side.

The fact you think for a moment that anyone driving a 2010 Boxster is a pillock because of the car shows how the media can influence people as to what is cool too. You can drive it with total confidence that virtually every car you come across won't steer, brake or handle as nicely and isn't that what sports cars are all about?

The 2010 model will have the 2.9 DFI engine which is certainly no slouch.

If you're a competent drive yes you may feel the chassis can take more power but for average joe it is plenty powerful enough, plus power isn't eh boxster's party piece, take it on some twisty roads and you'll soon see what is! You'll have a blast.

im really into my cars actually - hence my 'concern' i suppose. Im glad that you guys can reassure me though - ive worked SO hard to get this thing and im really going to try and enjoy it. Im really gratefull for the opportunity however and certainly grateful for being given it.

Lets hope i dont **** it into a tree eh?

The problem won't be enjoying the car, that will just happen. The problem will probably be getting back into the Golf once the three weeks are up. :)

Anyone who says it isnt anything other than a quick sports car is just talking rubbish. It's a great car and 0-60 in 6.5 isn't slow. Especially compared to a Golf.

Had a lovely play in one of these a couple of weekends ago on a corporate Porsche day. Lovely cars.

Anyone who makes "the" 911 comment is a massive phallus. It's a great car.

but im worried it may be a little slow and frankly............. not the 'S' version - can anyone reassure me?.
Your worried it going be too slow when your used to driving a 1.4L golf
Am i missing something here ??

Is there something very special about your 1.4L golf that i don't know about :D

I've got a cayman S and driven the non-S (which has the older 2.7L engine). Both are fast. The S is faster, but both cars handle incredibly well, so that apart from traffic light GP the driver will be the limiting factor most the time. Enjoy it!

WEll picked it up today and my word - its brilliant. And you are right - its more than quick enough (especially in London) however im driving abck to Berks in it this weekend for some well behaved B -Rd action and i cant wait.

Have not had the guts to put the roof down yet (feel a little poncy lol) but I will.

Oh and yes - of course its quicker than the bloody golf - I knew that much at least. My concern was that it would be a dissapointment in terms of outright 0-60 pace (ive driven plenty of quick cars in my time) and im very thankful indeed that my predjudice has been destroyed.

Bravo porsche.
