crossfire cable?

do I need a crossfire cable ? no cable came with either of my 2 6950's, but at the back of the box its said crossfire plug and play.... have they gotten rid of the cable ?

Yes you need a cable, connector, bridge, whatever you want to call it.

One should come with the cards but there seem to have been a few cards recently supplied without them.

Have you had a good dig around in the boxes to make sure?

yeah, definitively none in either of the boxes.... there is very few instructions with it, and I can't seem to find where to buy the crossfire cable on OC / really any other sites I've looked

They're not sold new because the should come with the graphics card.

You'll have to look second hand.

A certain auction site has plenty for sale.

Bit of a bummer when you have to pay for one though.

Do i need one of two ? some crossfire pics seem to contain 2 connected , others seem to have one, I can only seem to find one place where the cable would connect

HD 6950's have 2 "fingers" on each card but you only need to 1 cable to connect 2 cards.

From what I've read about here for dual bridges:

2 Bridges for: 3 or more cards, or high (over 1080p) resolutions.

I had loads of them kicking about a couple of years ago and when I needed one could I find one?! Had to look on the bay

Are you sure you bought HD 6950's? They have 2.

The HD 6850 and HD 6870 have 1.

That's a bit naff.

Other HD 6950's have 2 fingers so that you can run more than 2 cards in Crossfire.

Not possible with that card. With only 1 connector you can't use more than 2 cards.

Did you buy new or second hand?

I just recall someone on this forum (it may have been else where?) saying that on a similar discussion a while ago - I can't vouch for it being fact, its just what I read.

Something to do with 2 bridges carrying slightly more bandwidth, and that directly benefiting higher resolutions.

The 6990 only has one connector for my other 6970 so 2 vs. 1 is nonsense

thanks , ill see what store that sold it to me say first, if I don;t get anywhere I may take you up on your offer
