Well done on deleting your facebook page if I was there right now I'd buy you a beer. I deleted mine well over a year ago now.

What a weirdo.
He thinks he's on the higher horse and then comes on a forum full of people he doesn't know posting about it.
OCUK is Facebook for geeks.

I'm surprised only a few people are on the "Facebook is crap LOLLOLOL you have no life" high horse, less than normal.

If you don't like/use it, great, but no one cares.

Slight personal attack for no reason, but hey it's the internetz. I'm on no high horse, I think a forum asking how long you microwave your socks for can handle a I deleted my facebook page thread don't you?

useful for keeping in touch with family when you live far away from each other but other than that its all pointless unless you dont know your friends intrests and atitudes anyway

So, who's with me? lets get the ball rolling.

i did the same about 3 weeks ago, Facebook does a great job of showing you how shallow the people around you are. I had a friend that asked me if i wanted to go out that night and the sole purpose was so that she could put the pictures on her account as she hadnt updated it with anything interesting in a while.

The final straw was when i went to lidl to buy a pint of milk and at the top of the receipt it says: "Follow Lidl on Facebook Facebook.com/Lidl" - well that was it - Facebook was an incredibly good tool when it first came out for efficiently talking to a vast number of friends, but i just cant be bothered with it anymore.

I suggested to a friend of mine why not delete her account and she said it would mean she couldnt stalk her friends as easily - so i said, if Facebook is meant to be "social networking" and you're avoiding contacting your friends because your stalking then on Facebook - how is that social? :p

Anyway, i have decided that if someone is an actual friend, then you can just pick up the phone and call them and ask them what they have been up to - much more social in my view.

So you're rebelling about something you could have fixed and used it how you wanted to use it..

Just because everyone else adds hundreds of people doesn't mean you have to.
just because people update every 10 minutes doesn't mean you have to
just because people play silly games doesn't mean you have to.

Kick "friends" that aren't friends, kick stupid people who update ever 5 mins, hide and stupid game posts so you never see them again, lock down your account and use it how you want to use it. As a tool.

Thankyou, at least someone understands what I'm trying to get at.

I read a report in the paper a while back of a girl who committed suicide, she posted she was going to do it on facebook and not one 'friend' tried to help (she had over 300). I really didn't like that fact and it brought home how social networking is not a substitute for real life. For most people it's an enhancement, and I get that. For others it's a substitute and I don't want to be part of that.

I've deleted my profile before now, but that's more to do with me feeling like the PC owns my life and I seem to spend more time sat here tapping away on the keyboard than I do meeting mates and going out.
However I've come to realise if you can tear yourself away from the confines of the keyboard for a second, it's actually quite useful in organising your life in ways you couldn't do without it.

I requested it to be completely deleted from their servers and you need to wait 2 weeks. Today my Facebook page is gone, deleted forever.

The reasons for this were mainly getting fed up with all the stupid updates from people (I don't care you love your b/f g/f the mostest in the the whole world, your kids just as clever as anyone elses, I don't care what you're having for dinner e.t.c) and having 'friends' on my friends list. The whole thing seemed a bit pointless in the end. This coupled with Facebook owning everything I put on it I thought it's time to go and start living my life in the real world with actual contact with people (I was never much of a facebooker anyway). Any events I'll miss people will talk to me about anyway.

So, who's with me? lets get the ball rolling.

Actually thank you for the link, i haven't really used it in 3-4 years and yes it's all pointless, completely agree, i don't know anyone who uses anymore anyway.

The main thing that annoys me is couples having chit chat and complementing each other on facebook. I don't hesitate to put ppl on my silenced list!!

I haven't deleted my account but hardly bother with it.

I have about 20 friends on there & ignore all the other stuff.

I feel sorry for facebook addicts, what a waste of time.
