Two-year-old girl in China run over by two vehicles, then ignored by more than a dozen people

That video is... well theres no words for it.

I found it rather poignant that the first driver, who actually runs the girl over, stops half way, thinks for a second, then just carries on, running over her again.

Shocking.

Oh boy that's disturbing. Makes life seem so cheap and pointless. I don't think the driver knew that he hit a kid, and it's possible some of the passers by didn't even realise it, imo.

I don't know, I recall a commuter subway train in London when two men entered a carriage and shot a man nine times in the head. They were armed, not in any uniform, nor did they give any warning.
All the courts and investigations that followed stated the guy was completely innocent of any crime, yet failed to prosecute anyone with his murder, or in fact punish anyone in the chain of command.

Things can be reported in any way you like.
Press tend to make things look very black and white.
Where I am right now, not UK, if someone got run over beside me, I certainly would not stop.

This situation illustrates why nowadays in this day and age, the human race is doomed.

I truly despair.

/also runs off to hug 8 month old son.

****! Why did I have to watch the video :(

Literally, the van driver runs her over, stops midway for a few seconds and then carries on, running her over again with the back wheels. Then multiple people walk past totally ignoring the still-moving body. Then another, larger van runs her over again.

Finally a garbage lady goes to help her.

Most Chinese people I meet are great people. I don't know what's going on in the minds of the people in that province :(

The rich Chinese who come here, typically kids of industry leaders and party members, are arrogant tossers. The whole lot of them...I'm not even afraid to generalise.

The Chinese who's parents have emigrated here are generally hard-working and lovely (:)) (since we all had to start from scratch and work our way up while learning the language).

As to the incident, the lorry driver most likely carried on driving because the compensation claim would have bankrupted him, and if he couldn't pay he would most likely have to spend a long long time in jail. If he was a working man, either case would likely mean the ruin of his entire family.

The people walking past? Is it possible that they just didn't see, or saw only a little bundle of rags? I'm not up for watching the video this early on a Monday :(.

I have just viewed the Youtube video of this tragic incident. Absolutely blown away with the level of compassion by passers by, let alone the incompetence of the van driver. How could the van driver fail to notice a two year old child walking towards him while driving at a snails pace for **** sake!

When I saw this incident it just didn't shock me the same way it would if I saw it happening in London for example, because I don't think Chinese people view these things quite the same way we do. That's all. I don't think that is an unfair assumption, the way they live is very different to here.

This is sadly true. In a country that's sustained the shock of genocide by the Japanese during the war, then genocide by Mao, and attempts by the government to crush all 'capitalist' emotions such as 'love', empathy and any form of spiritual thought during the cultural revolution, peoples values towards things like death and poverty are nothing like what you find in most western societies.

I did too. Wish I hadn't. Stops halfway, then carries on.

It's a 2yr old lying mutilated on the road in front of you and you don't bat an eye lid? There is something seriously wrong with people.

For anyone that is commenting without seeing the vid, watch the vid and then comment again.

Wasn't there someone in America who got run over on a bridge umpteen times before someone stopped? I can't find the story since the keywords I recall of it are a little vague.

Oh and where do you get off making generalisations of a race of over a billion?

Of course it's not nice but ignoring someone needing help isn't unknown to other countries.

Was about to say something similar. If this happened in the UK it would be "How could people so such a thing".

Just watched the video and my jaw hit the floor. Absolutely shocking!

Reading a lot about some Nanjing judge. Here is a summary from one of the comments:

It isn’t ignoring, it’s not daring. If one were to encounter a Nanjing judge, one would be screwed.

[Note: "Nanjing judge" refers to the infamous 2006 case of a man named Peng Yu who helped a woman to the hospital after she had fallen only to have the old woman accuse him of knocking her down. The Nanjing judge in that case ultimately ruled that common sense dictated that only the person who hit her would take her to the hospital, setting a precedent that continues only further discourages and reinforces many Chinese people's wariness to help others in similar situations.

This is some stills of what happened, there is no possibility they didn't notice her. They all rubber necked her but one and he all but stepped over her, they all need to be dragged infront of the Chinese legal system.

Not all Chinese people are like that, that is just stereotyping, just like the UK is full of Chavs and Hooligans. But when you step back and look at the UK there are so many great people, and from the Chinese people I have spoken to and socialised with they are friendly and caring.

The chinese that are privileged enough to be over here are vastly different from the majority.

they should send anyone walking past her to jail, anyone driving past, the two running her over and the mum and dad for letting their 2 yr old walk around into the road.. poor little girl..

that then may change the system, dont think i'll be going to china anytime soon.
