Right anyway, initaily the first thing i did was take the power supplly apart... this was mainly to check the build quality and weather there were any bad caps or burn marks, being ebay its always good to check, but it was dust free and problem free. so i put it back together, firstly i will show and of topic picture of my system
since the retention bracket snapped ive had to redneck my system so the heat sink makes contact with the cpu.
okay so here's the power supply in all its Hp server glory (naked)
Now for those that dont know what a server psu thats hotswappable looks like here it is
on this particular power supply there are 8 blades and a 28pin logic connector, 4 blade's are for 12v ground and 4 are for 12v (approx 25amps per +12v blade) and a blade looks like a small bit of metal that latches round and makes connection with something on the caddy when plugged into the hotswap bay.
So with the pinout diagram of the 28pin contection on the back i got to work building an on switch, for this i used the motherboard end of an old usb conector (fitted the pins well) and cut of the un needed wires.
Now i got to work soldering the blades (white=12v+ and black=ground) although the solder looks close together its not touching and i will insulate with hot glue before using it.
now all that was left was to tidy all the cable's up, but i had no cable ties, so used cables and tied them :L
Any questions?
No?
Good
