American Sweets

Oh and I tried a Hershey bar from Asda and it had a very strange after taste. Did not want . Neither did anyone else that tried it.

Its vomit you are tasting, Hershey smells like vomit.

Ghirardelli is the best American chocolate.

Personally i think the UK mountain dew is nothing like the US version.
It is nothing like it.

The US version (MTN Dew) has a number of ingredients that the EU frown upon being present in a beverage and Pepsico are on the warpath for anyone bringing it into the UK as they want the focus to be on their rebranded Mountain Dew Energy.

Well that and the fact they don't want a bollocking from the EU over the American stuff being available on these shores.

I find a lot of their stuff sounds good but tastes pretty poor by our standards. In particular the quality of their chocolate is shocking (Hersheys in particular). And the twinkie has nothing on a nice Mr Kiplin bar.
Lucky charms are nice though :p

I've ordered from both the American Sweets and the American Soda website, the later more often than the former.

Just got a big order through to see me through the Blizzcon weekend. Spent around £75 and that was AFTER a 10% discount code was applied.

I've ordered mainly from American Soda. Just ordered some Pop Tarts, IBC Cream Soda and Lucky Charms a few weeks ago. I also tend to get stuff from Cybercandy if i happen to be near Covent Garden

Why did I have to see this thread?!

Just ordered a mixture of things as a birthday present and included some things for myself.

Lucky charms, wonka nerds, pop tarts, root beer, cream soda etc. Came to £45 but received a 15% discount for being a new customer :)

There's a good reason why they cant sell such things so easily.

Their sweets are probably the worst, most disgusting things you can put into your mouths.

Rather tempted by some of the items but the markup on them is outright daylight robbery!

What I would love to get is "Jones Soda" had it on a trip to the US and it was pretty cheap and damn tasty (had some mad flavors like Turkey and stuff as well)

Never seen it in N. Ireland though, anyone know any places that sell it for non-****taking prices?

How much do you imagine it costs them to have all that stuff shipped from America? Its all sent by boat you know, in big cargo containers.

When you buy 24 cans from American Soda that works out at about 89p a can. And American cans are bigger than the ones you get in the UK as well. Its not that huge a markup when you think of it that way.

A guy at worked used organise an order from there to save on shipping. Can't say I'm a big fan of American sweets. They seem to be full of a huge amount of unessasary additives and taste very atficial.

Exactly this ! I live in the USA and their candy is no-where near as good as what you get in England.

Actually the missus and I, miss pretty much all of the UK chocolate and sweets. As Jonny says, they make them sound good, but rarely does it taste better.

This thread makes me smile.. Grass is greener yo ! :D

Things we miss in particular.

Ribena
All the chocolate, smarties, lion bars, crunchies etc
Milk Bottles
1/4 of this and that
Fruit Pastles
decent licorice

So many treats you have in England over the USA. Could be such a hit over here too. They are so missing out.

Jones Soda is actually from Canada (originally) and is not available in England. Wikipedia tells me that for some weird reason, it is Available in the republic of Ireland

Jones soda is the most heavenly drink known to mankind and i would drink nothing else for my entire life if I could.

Some American-stuff-importers have it, there's a place in Coventry that did it which made for nice coursework-done treats every now and again.

I'm going back around 25 years but when I was a wee lad, a friend of mine used to go to America quite regularly and always came back with these long strips of strawberry belt sweets. I remember them being really juicy and tangy but can't for the life of me remember what they were called. I probably wouldn't even be able to recognise the name if someone told me. Anyone have a clue what they might have been?!!

Go to Asda, they do Hershey bars on their chocolate aisle. I buy loads of the stuff. They also have some variety of kisses too. :D

From memory it's about £1.80 a Hershey bar, though it has gone on offer and I last acquired some for £1.20 a bar.

It's bloody expensive.

A bag of kisses is like £4. Go to the states its twice the size for less money. Rip off. May or may not still buy it though :(

if you live in the North East, Fenwicks food area has a good stock of american sweets and drinks..they have their own little section, mainly wonka stuff like everlasting gobstoppers (lush!) and they had 5 different varieties of nerd cartons, and some wonka stuff I had never tried (bottle caps and sour chews)

MMMMmmmmmmmm....... Peanut Butter M&M's.

Best American Seets EVER! Well im my opinion.:p

Very expensive in UK, I think in the States I paid $8 (£5) for a 1Kg bag, American Sweets are charging £2.99 for 144g!

MMMMmmmmmmmm....... Peanut Butter M&M's................. must resist..............wallet opening.............MMMMmmmmmmmm....... Peanut Butter M&M's.......................:p
