TBH Dave, what you're looking to get into doesn't sound much less soul-destroying
I work in SAN storage for a big telco. It's alright, don't particularly enjoy it.
Not raking it in
and I'm not supporting legacy code, but writing new stuff!!
That makes me very sad indeed, I think the guy I was speaking about was maintaining legacy code for a large bank... regardless cobol programmers are a dying breed.

considering the many issues with your kind I have I don't think the thread is big enough to list them suffice to say my job would probably be a hell of a lot easier if they wern't there

I think at some point i might do a big change of career for a while, maybe a year or two just to do something different. Like become a fisherman and spend months out at sea on a big trawler.
could always come back and sit at a desk all day afterwards...Ive already stated what I do - but just noticed the poll.
I'll add that I don't like IT.. and wish I could do something else, though it's the only thing I'm any good at (work wise anyways).
Having my own bike shop or surf shop would be my dream job ( boring yes I know... but it's stuff I actually give a crap about), but won't pay my bills
