2600k + motherboard advice

Ivy isn't going to be any massive improvement over SB.
A few percent from IPC difference, a few percent from likely higher clocking. Like 5% probably.
I did however say, go 2500k, then go i7 when Ivy hits, that'd be a better path. As you may feel you don't want the i7 Ivy from the 2500k/

the problem is this will be my last upgrade for atleast 2years+.

i'm only able to do this upgrade because im getting some money back from my bank

hence why i want the best whats out now

The 2600k won't have any lead over the 2500k to justify the price difference, however if you feel it will, go for it.
It'll certainly last you 2 years at least.

so i guess that would improve encoding software performance?

If they can use the extra threads, yes.
May even be faster than an 8150 depending on what clock you get.
Though I wouldn't pick that Asrock board as it has some annoying settings to sort out before you can overclock properly as Zoomee is finding out.

The main beneficiary of HyperThreading is x264 encoding. You'll get around a 35% performance increase.

If you don't do any encoding then HyperThreading is almost certainly not worth it.

If your going to play games like BF3 - They will take advantage of HT mate - get the 2600k your not going to regret it!

Heres why:

Hang on whilst I pick my jaw up off the floor! - If i can get this 100% stable I'll be amazed!

Bit of advice Gareth - stay away from the Asrock board - its a pain in the a33 to setup (overclock). Stick with Asus for overclocking.

Good thing is the warranty from corsair mate - IF in worst case scenarios it leaks (only ever seen 1 to do that) - Corsair will replace all your parts FOC!

btw - forget the 2600k - get the 2700k. I've just returned my 2600k today, pending delivery of my 2700k :) - It actually cost me £10 less than my 2600k!!! no brainer really - higher binned parts are only going to overclock better - think 1090T/1100T ;)

The 2700k is not necessarily a higher binned chip than the 2600k. Also many 1090t's clocked higher than 1100t's because they werent necessarily higher binned either.
