Had a lovely letter left on my desk this afternoon...

Been told its on Thurs afternoon, do I have the right to ask for it after the weekend... In order to seek advice?

I was hoping for someone in the know to tell me if this is something I can demand? Obviously 2 evenings to prepare a response / find someone to represent isn't really feasible.

It depends on your company policy and the wording in their disciplinary procedure but best practice usually dictates a minimum of 48 hours notice.

So Thursday isn't deemed unreasonable, even if you feel it is I'm afraid. But it's worth asking if they will delay it and state your reasons with regard to representation.

It seems odd that they'd give you a disciplinary unless you have done something wrong... you must be able to think :p.

they have to give you reasonable notice, most places is 7 days I don't think 48 hours is sufficient, but hey let them crack on **** it up and screw them for it

Phone up Acas as they should tell you if it is within their rights to give you 48 hours notice or not.

You can probably take someone in with you, be it a union rep, a solicitor, a friend, a colleague... You can take minutes, but good luck getting anyone on the other side of the desk to witness your version of events, so if you expect disputes over what is said in the meeting then you may want a friend in there with you.

Is this letter the first you have heard about this disciplinary action? If so give ACAS a call for advice on how to proceed.

Yes, first letter - I'm struggling to see how I can arrange any evidence / person to come with me when i'm going to be at work during the day.

Thanks - I'll try ACAS in the morning.

I belive 48 hours is the legal minimum and is designed to allow you to obtain representation for the hearing.

After reading the above-linked thread, it seems to me they are trying to push you out. Maybe this is or isn't what you want to hear, but I would prepare for the worst.
